Civil Engineering (MUST) for 2009-2013 General Observations (Weak areas)

PEC Doc Ref. General observations (Weak areas) by PEC Team Department has only one PhD. There is a dire need of at least two more PhDs. Recommendations by Chairman Civil Engineering, MUST The department has already requested the competent authorities to induct more faculty members as given at Annexe 1. Kindly refer to the letter given at Annexe 1. Department is of the view that the proposed induction will bring down the students teacher ratio to at below 20:1. Advisor P&D has been given additional charge of HOD due to unavailability of senior faculty member. PhD member will be given the charge at appropriate time. Again kindly refer to the letter at Annexe 1. The induction of lab engineers, Lab assistants and lab attendants (3 each) has been recommended, which will satisfactorily fulfill our needs in accordance with PEC guidelines. It is assured that all the new Lab assistants shall be at least DAE in civil engineering. As per PEC guidelines, the chief librarian has been requested to increase the titles in the central and departmental libraries to beyond 1000 latest books. Kindly refer to Annexe 2. Student teacher ratio is on higher side (27:1)

Head of department should be PhD.

The skill level of laboratory staff needs to be improved and lab assistants having DAE in civil engineering should be inducted.

Titles in the library should be enhanced from 525 to 1000 books.

The library should be automated with the latest software.

Latest books must be introduced to strengthen the curriculum.

Lab courses must be reviewed to include additional experiments.

Additional Lab equipments must be purchased.

Faculty development program may be strengthened by sponsoring faculty members for higher studies in indigenous and foreign university.

As observed by the honorable PEC team on June, 10, 2013, all the civil engineering books shall be automated using the latest software. The curriculum of civil engineering has been prepared in accordance with the new HEC guidelines (2012) as well as the recommendations of two experts in the civil engineering field through board of studies. The reference books shall be further updated and latest advances shall be incorporated in the next Board of Studies Meeting and its outcomes shall be provided to the PEC. Kindly refer to Annexe 3. New lab experiments using latest apparatus shall be introduced in the curriculum and the outcomes shall be communicated to the PEC. Kindly refer to Annexe 3. 1. HEC has been consulted to establish a dedicated Environmental Engineering Laboratory. The submitted proposal to HEC is attached at Annexe 4. 2. In the next budget, department is going to purchase high quality UTM, Open channel flume and three Total Stations. University scholarships of two faculty members (One PHD and one MSc) are in process as per recommendations of university selection committee. Letters

Regular meetings of board should be conducted to revise the curriculum. The subject of Electromechanical engineering should be inducted.

The nomenclature of Structural Engineering course may be changed to Structural and Earthquake Engineering. Space for Concrete Lab-2 should be enhanced.
