Time Series Function

This is the major advantage in OBIEE tool; this function is available only in OBIEE than other reporting tools. These are prebuilt functions and depend on Dimensional hierarchies. Time series functions are used for doing analysis comparing the time. Ex: compare current year revenue with last 5 years revenue. Ago Other than current period all the other periods data can get. <Measure> <Level> <No. of Periods> Ex: <Revenue><Month><25> -It will get 25 months back data Todate - It will always fetch you the current data or most recent data. <Measure> <Level> Ex: <Revenue><Month> -It will get latest months data. Chronological key It is a level identifier. It is a hint. Most detailed level will be assigned as Chronological key, because detailed level data have mostly unique data. Ex: Day These are only required for Time series functions, these are not required for drill down option. Note: -If we want to work with time series functions then you should have at least one chronological key defined on the dimension hierarchy. -Oracle recommends to define the chronological keys on the all the levels of the hierarchy for best performance. But in general if we have a chronology key in the bottom most level of the hierarchy still we can work with time series functions. Prerequisites for time series functions: I. There should be at least one measure column (which has an aggregation rule). II. There should be a valid time dimension hierarchy. III. That dimension hierarchy should be referred as a time dimension. IV. All the levels in the hierarchy must have chronological keys. V. The columns assigned in the dimension hierarchy should contain unique values. VI. The bottom most level or last level of the dimension hierarchy should contain primary key or unique key of the dimension table on which hierarchy is created. YTD The period of starting of the current year to current date. QTD The period of starting of the current quarter to current date. MTD The period of starting of the current month to current date. Ex: What is the YTD of March 2012 January 1st to March 31st What is the Current year YTD January 1st to current date What is the YTD of March 2008 January 1st of 2008 to December 31st of 2008 What is the QTD of March 2012 January 1st to March 31st of 2012 What is the QTD of May 2011 April 1st to May 31st of 2011
