PREFACE It gives me immense pleasure in doing this case study on hotel management. The reason why i chose to do this case study because of the importance of hotel management role played in todays international trade & human relation.
Prior to this case study i only had a slight idea of what are hotel management and its importance in modern business world.

This is a project automation of hotel management. It is aimed at organizing and automation of the process related to hotel management the project will benefit the hotel in managing the information of customers, staff members of various department and some of the details regarding to the hotel. This will help to maintain the data of the hotel and their transaction on a day to day basis.

ITERATIVE WATERFALL MODEL

The waterfall model proposed in 1970 is a traditional model for software development. It is a sequential process model. According to this model the software development project is executed in some steps or phases. The phases of software development process are as under. 1. System engineering 2. Requirement analysis 3. Design 4. Implementation or coding 5. Verification or testing 6. Maintenance The shortcomings of this model became apparent and other versions of the waterfall model called the iterative waterfall model have been developed that adds a feedback mechanism to the Waterfall Model

FEASIBILITY
Garvit Rai(100170305069) Page 5

CHANDIGARH ENGINEERING COLLEGE , LANDRAN

The resources required to build a hotel management system are: 1. Non-Negotiable 1.1 1.2 1.3 Working staff Infrastructure Interior and Exterior Designing and Place Catering

2. Negotiable 2.1 Cost/Budget

Feasibility study deals with both negotiable as well as non-negotiable factors while building a system In hotel management system, factors concerned with feasibility are: 1. Whether the system falls under budget? 2. Whether the required resources are available.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATION(SRS) PREPARATION & DESIGNING PHASE

SRS Document is a formal agreement signed by both customer as well as developer where they agree on the requirements of the customer and the services provided by the developer to fulfill the requirements of the customer
Garvit Rai(100170305069) Page 6

Requirements can be gathered by: 1. Face to face discussions. 2. Forms 3. Queries, etc Purpose of Requirement Analysis 1. Refine Requirements 2. Remove ambiguities, incompleteness, inconsistency 3. More refining in SRS Document

DESIGNING It consists of making an outline of a system in an organized way

It consists of contexts diagrams, Data Flow Diagrams, Structured Charts,

etc

EXISTING SYSTEM The current system being followed in the hotel is manual AND ITS FEATURES ARE:
Garvit Rai(100170305069) Page 8

All the processes of this management system are done manually in the form of paper work and the records are stored in the registers. Customer, equipment, grocery stock and other important information are written on paper bills are hand written. Grocery and equipment stock is manually maintained in registers. PROBLEM DEFINITION The Hotel Was Dealing With A Lot Of Data Stored In Registers. Manual Dependency Slowed The Work. Frequent Errors in Calculations of Bills Stock Updating Of Food Material i.e. Grocery &Equipments According To The Demand Was Prone To Errors. Improper Guidance to the Customers Complaints by Customer Regarding Services

PROPOSED SYSTEM PLAN This project is planned to be developed in visual basic as front end for the user interface and oracle as back end to store the records. It will take care of the entire transaction of the hotel. This project will also provide the information related to the a) Customer b) rooms

c) table availability d) staff members of various departments This project will provide security so that only the authenticated users will be able to access data The project will store the detailed records related to a) purchase order of grocery stock and other machinery or equipments. b) salary of staffs c) monthly and annual reports the project will also provide to add, modify, delete, search and view the records. The project will provide print out facility for the important documents to be handled over to the management, also the minor bills to be given to the customer. ADVANTAGES OF PROPOSED SYSTEM With improved computerization being involved in the maintenance of details of customer and staff members of various dept. Error and inconsistencies is reduced to a great extent. Proper guidance is provided to the customer regarding various services of the hotel. Validation of data will be ensured, only accurate valid and complete data will be stored in the database. Bill and report generation in the form of printouts will reduce manual work and increase the level of accuracy. The report generation will enable management to analyze the performance of the hotel and manage the administration in the better way. Customer satisfaction is also taken into consideration. Reduction in the manual work will increase the profit of management.

IMPLEMENTATION Here the main concern is to make the whole system run according to the design prepared by the developer on the outlines given by the customer. It refers to the working of the system in actual conditions or the working conditions. Hence the model prepared upto this phase is put into work to check if it produces desired results or not. Implementation facilitates the next phase i.e. testing The hotel management system hence prepared is put to practice to discover any loopholes or bugs that may lead to failure of the system as such and also to investigate whether the output is desired or not.

Once implemented properly, the system is then thoroughly tested. TESTING It is the phase in which the client can also participate. There are different types of testing: 1. Alpha Testing done by developer at developer site 2. Beta testing done by client as well 3. White box testing done by developer to get a desired output 4. Black box testing done by user to get desired output Once a Hotel management system is implemented as per the requirements and design, it is put through various testing stages to make it run smoothly and error free. Various modules are tested independently like management, workers ,cleaning ,service , etc to find any possible bugs. After a thorough testing phase, the system is complete and is put to practice .It has to be maintained properly so that it can run bug-free. MAINTENANCE It is the phase that requires the maximum efforts(about 60% of total). Different types of maintenance are: 1. Corrective Maintenance: that deals with the bugs if any and fix them at correct time or before final retirement of the project. 2. Perfective Maintenance: that deals with adding new functionalities to current system. 3. Adaptive Maintenance: deals with the system being able to adapt to different environment.

Dealing with the maintenance of a Hotel Management system is a big task . It requires periodic addition of corrective measures to the system for better maintenance and comfort of the customers as well as profit of the owners. New features need to be added to the system that are lucrative and customer comfort centred so that profits increase as well . The hotel management system should be adaptability proof i.e. following this system by any other group should provide similar results. FEEDBACK MECHANISM A significant problem with the conventional waterfall model is that the linearity of the development results in a failure to provide early feedback on the development. The waterfall model provides a useful structure, but this structure is typically very inflexible. It provides no indication of how to handle unusual or unexpected situations (such as the loss of key development personnel). Similarly if it is discovered that the process is not providing the required results (such as a schedule over-run) then the waterfall model provides no guidance on how this can be addressed. Indeed the basic waterfall model simply assumes that the development process always progresses in an orderly fashion from project initiation to project completion with no deviation from the standard pattern. Thus feedback mechanism is important for a system In a Hotel management system, feedback is important as any problem at any stage can cause big issues as investment is very high in this system. Also to be lucrative, any problem need to be addressed as soon as possible. Any changes in the design or requirements is indeed possible due to feedback mechanism only.

CONCLUSION Even if the multifactor model used by the authors may be viewed as unspecified, useful results can still be extracted and analysed. The hotel sector slightly performs better than others depending on the management system which are done manually in the form of paper work and the records are stored in the registers. The hotel is benefited in managing the information of customers, staff members of various department and some of the details regarding to the hotel. This will help to maintain the data of the hotel and their transaction on a day to day basis.
