Below are the Crisis Recovery (for Phoenix BIOS)

One of the readers of the site asked the question on my laptop , in response to which I was advised to try to recover the BIOS. My answer was something like "try to restore the BIOS using the crisis disk." That sounds to say the least is not clear. Realizing this I began a series of two articles on the Phoenix BIOS and Crisis Disc. This is the first of them. In order to restore the Phoenix BIOS we need to enter in Crisis Recovery Mode. How to do this and a little of the theory can be found in this article.

Phoenix BIOS recovery procedure uses the boot block (boot-block), which can not be overwritten during a regular update BIOS (flash BIOS). Boot-block contains code to load the system into operation Crisis Recovery Mode (CRM). Loading unit equipped with all the chips Phoenix BIOS somewhere in 2001. To activate the boot block, there are three ways:

1. The key combination. 2. The jumper on the motherboard. 3. Specially made LPT connector.
WARNING! You should disable all of the devices from the laptop (mouse, keyboard, device USB, printer, external monitor, and so on), remove the disk and floppy disks, as well as to remove the battery.

In the CRM systems are only basic laptop. You will not see anything on the screen, keyboard and hard drive will not work. Understand that you are in Crisis Recovery Mode may be on the following grounds:

CPU cooler rotates at maximum speed, which creates more noise than usual. On indicator may light a different color. Indicators Caps Lock and Num lock light up while the keyboard does not work. The hard drive does not work (no characteristic sound). No other signs of life.

Now that we know what to expect, we consider three ways to enter into CRM. Method 1: The key combination Fn + B, Fn + Esc, Win + B or Win + Esc Most likely you will get to this option, the other two are rare.

1. Unplug the power cord. 2. Press and hold the Fn + B. 3. Without releasing the Fn + B, connect the power cord. At this point you can see the short blinking of the
screen, which is a good sign.

4. Still not releasing Fn + B, press the power button. 5. Release Fn + B. 6. The system is loaded in the mode Crisis Recovery Mode

Accordingly, if the key combination Fn + B does not fit, try the Fn + Esc, Win + B or Win + Esc. Method 2: jumper on the motherboard notebook This procedure takes something like this:

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Turning off the power cord. Find the jumper is usually labeled BOOTBLOCK, and closes it (jumper dress). Connect the power cord. At this point you can see the short blinking of the screen, which is a good sign. Click the button on the laptop. All system must startonut mode CRM.

So, if you were not able to enter into CRM using the keyboard shortcuts. And also the right not find the jumper (read the manual). That is the last way to use that I personally have not tried it ... I consider it somewhat risky. Thus, the latter method: Method 3: LPT port dongle in a laptop Similar to that described in the article " how to remove the password in the BIOS with Toshiba laptops ", you need to build a connector LPT, peremknuv following pins: Pin 2 - Pin 15 Pin 3 - Pin 13 Pin 4 - Pin 11 Pin 5 - Pin 12 Pin 6 - Pin 10 To select the CRM is as follows:

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Turn off the power. Connect the dongle. Connect the power supply. Short blink at this point, according to tradition - a good sign. Click the button on the laptop. Everything.
