Unit outline

Unit outline
The curriculum content is based on the premise that those seeking a career as creatives in the industry require a comprehensive understanding of its structure and the requirements for employment.

Learning Outcomes

Exhibit project management skills in the context of the unit - how to manage workload and organise material effectively. 2. Create a platform (in journals online/ofine) showcasing their skills and examples of work.

Learning & Teaching Strategy

Students will be introduced to the processes of presenting work through a variety of formats through practical workshops. Students will develop their individual Showreels and CVs through a series of show and tell sessions. Towards the end of the semester students will have a critical presentation which will enable them to gauge reaction and evaluation from their peers.

Assessment

Students individually will produce a CV and Showreel/Business Card in an agreed, pitched and appropriate format to highly professional standards. They will also be required to back up working processes in an accompanying blog.

Assessment
100% Coursework: 1- Artefact70% Showreel/Working Journal (blog) - Individual students will PRODUCE a portfolio of work in an appropriate medium. 2- Artefact30%CV/Business Card / Working Journal (blog)Individual students will PRODUCE an industry pitched CV and Business Card intended for their career path after graduation.

Topics Covered
1.Strategies for enabling students to demonstrate their work in a Showreel. 2.Strategy for shaping portfolios to meet the requirements of a variety of prospective employers. 3.Strategy for presentations/packaging/other promotional material for prospective employers. 4.Understanding how to identify and pitch to the target audience, namely the employer.

Portfolio/Showreel
A strong portfolio opens doors, a weak portfolio closes them. Your portfolio is often the only thing a person sees before deciding whether or not to contact you, and in many cases you may not be present to explain it (particularly on-line portfolios). There are fundamental qualities that all outstanding portfolios share, and a variety of principals and techniques that can help take your portfolio from average to excellent.

Portfolio/Showreel
If at all possible, your portfolio should be appropriate to the situation and reviewer, and all portfolios should show creativity, skills, range, thought, and ambition. Know who your audience is - RESEARCH It is the overall combination of these, plus that "special something," that makes you stand above the others.

Schedule
Students will develop their individual showreels and CVs through a series of show and tell sessions. Towards the end of the module students will have a critical presentation which will enable them to gauge reaction and evaluation from their peers. Planning is critical. Important to get industry feedback.
