Do You Have Back Pain? Check the Feet First!
When a patient complains of back pain, Paul Chiropractic and Health Center does a thorough examination of the spine. However, it is vitally im-
portant that the feet are examined, as well. The feet are the foundation of the body and if there isnt a proper foundation, the rest of the body will
suffer. The most common condition associated with back pain is pronation of the feet, which is flat arch or flat feet. Pronation can cause back
pain in several ways. Another condition of the feet that is not as common is supination, which means high arch. A high arch is usually a rigid
arch without much flexibility. The inflexibility of the arch does not absorb shock well and transmits forces to the spine just as pronation does. A
digital scan of the feet evaluates all three arches of the foot and helps to determine if your feet are contributing to back pain. Treatment for back
pain due to pronation or supination could involve spinal manipulation, therapy, and bilateral custom-made orthotics.
