Topic: Position Class: KC Stage : ES 1 Lesson Objective: The students will be able to identify and describe the position of an object or thing, in terms of above and below.

Specific content: use everyday language to describe the position of an object in relation to another object. follow simple directions to position an object or themselves using everyday language to describe their position in relation to other objects using everyday language to describe the position of an object in relation to themselves Date: 8 April, 2013 Time: 9:30 (40 min) Term 1 Prior or assumed knowledge: Many students may be able to describe the position of an object in relation to themselves, but not in relation to another object. Grouping Whole class Students identify and name objects. Space Seated on the floor, in front of the smart board. Rationale: The purpose of this lesson is to develop students understanding of position of an object or things using above and below. Resources Smart board activity Various things within in the Classroom Chart paper and pictures of different things. Glue

Time 5-7 min

Teaching strategies Teacher introduces the concept of position, in terms of above and below, by giving suitable examples. Teacher names an object from within the class and asks the students to find things that are above or/and below that object. Teacher asks the students to find something that is above them and something that is below them. Using an interactive

activity on the white board ask the students to describe the position of an object in relation to another object. Ask the students to form a circle. Ask the students to select a picture and paste it on a chart paper along with describing its position (using above and below) with respect to another object. Teacher observes and assesses the students while they are describing the position of their picture. During the activity on the white board and the chart paper, the teacher observes whether the students have been able to correctly describe the position of an object (or place the object) or not.

position of the object in relation to another one using terms above and below.

The students describe the place where they are going to place their picture, in terms of above/below another object. Evaluation (Summative) What worked well in the lesson? What needs improving? Who needs additional support? Did the teaching strategies cater to all needs? Did the lesson go as planned? Were the outcomes achieved? Were there any unexpected outcomes? Was the lesson within the estimated time? How would I change this lesson for future use? Where do I take the students now? Teaching notes (Information to keep in mind)

Evaluation (Formative) Note the responses of the students during the various activities. Also check the engagement level of the students. Are the activities easily followed by the students? Did they get the concept?

Follow up (What students need to be followed up what material should be repeated)
