The Kyrie is part of the Easter liturgy, and is not always popular for some reason. The
prayer Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy is often seen either as self-indulgent or as
misplaced woe-is-me false piety by modern worshippers. This arrangement is an attempt
to get beyond such misconceptions by placing the prayer in the larger context of Gods
heart for all of humanity.
