The economy of Southwest Asia is diverse and the region experiences high economic growth. Collectively, the region is best known for producing and exporting oil resources. Moreover, six rich countries of Southwest Asia belong to OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries). The economy of the region is generally developed and stable due its huge oil reserves, as more than half of the world's oil reserves and around 40 percent of the world's natural gas reserves are located in the region. The instability in Southwest Asia had tremendous effects to its oil industry, but it remained one of the richest regions in the world in terms of natural resources.
