Board of Education Strategic Goals 2013-2014 DRAFT

The Vision
It is our shared vision to make Bethel Public Schools a premier district in the state and nation and to be on the leading edge of educational excellence by providing a rigorous core education driven by a technology-powered pedagogy and access to significant opportunities to learn and grow through authentic real-world experiences. Our instructional program will meet the 21st century demands of the new, global knowledge economy that calls ALL students to be innovators, critical thinkers, and creative, collaborative problem solvers. Our graduates will be responsible, active citizens prepared to compete with anyone, anywhere for any opportunity who are so inspired by their educational experience they serve as enthusiastic ambassadors of Bethel and the Bethel Way wherever they might travel.

English/Language Arts:

Implementation of CCSS

Improve students ability to read rigorous, complex texts across the content areas. Improve students ability to think critically and use evidence to support ideas when speaking and writing. Improve students ability to compose focused narratives, informative/explanatory texts, and opinion/argument pieces that consider task, purpose and audience Improve students ability to compose arguments and support claims with clear reasons and relevant text evidence.

Mathematics:

Increase cognitive engagement with key concepts at each grade level/course through demonstration of the 8 mathematical practices.

Move forward with renovation plans for Rockwell and Johnson Present Superintendents recommendations to BOS on 10/3 Send BOE recommendation to BOS by November 1st

Advance personalized learning and college/career pathway initiative at secondary level Articulate Student Success Planning at BMS and BHS Develop competency-based curriculum progression policy Expand Internship and CTE opportunities Increase college credit earning opportunities *Establish dual diploma program (students would earn both BHS diploma and AA from WCSU)
