With the greatest affection and respect, we dedicate this production to the memory of Murray
DePillars, artist, educator, jazz lover, mentor and friend. Murray was Dean of the Arts at VCU
when we purchased the historic Empire Theatre in 1986. Without his encouragement and
support, the acquisition would never have happened. Murray’s many contributions to the arts
in Richmond will benefit our community for decades to come. He will not be forgotten.
