PERSONAL STATEMENT

Ever since I can remember myself, I have always dreamt of a more humane?? a more just society ,free from self-interest ,prejudice or bias.As I was growing my perception of the world remained unchanged despite the fact that I had come to the cold realization that few people shared my views or could fully comprehend and embrace my idealistic way of thinking. This fact however has neither discouraged nor held me back[detered me] , on the contrary it has motivated me as well as made me more determined concerning what career path I want to pursue in my life. I strongly believe that the backbone of any society is jurisprudence ,its legislation system. For what is a society where laws are not enforced or implemented, where equal opportunities for all its members are not offered or secured where human rights are blatantly violated , individuality is ignored or disrespected, where discrimination reigns. In my opinion it is one that definitely needs changing and I deem myself both willing and able to bring that about,to contribute even in the merest, the slightest way . The legal profession does carry prestige and a promise for a better income and that is what draws slews of young people to it.What some of them fail to realize is that although it can be a noble and rewarding profession it is also quite demanding and competitive. To be a successful lawyer a person needs to be articulate, words are a tool of the trade.Someone who aspires to be a lawyer should be confortable presenting information to large groups of people, he or she should also be in a position to communicate effectively.Being adept at oral argument, having the ability to exercise critical thinking and logical reasoning are of essense as well. I think that over the past years ,with the encouragement and support of my school, I have managed to develop and hone the forementioned abilities and skills. My having participated and won ,for that matter, in debate competitions and MUN conferences can attest to that. I believe that I have learnt to compete and assert myself never failing to show respect to my opponents, though . Furthermore, as mentioned initially, maintaining a level of idealism ,wanting to be part of the solution rather than the problem, wishing to make a difference ,to improve society is a key ingredient ,a fundamental requirement for becoming a lawyer. With referrence to this, my delving into ancient Greek philosophy and modern as well as classic literature has, in my opinion , allowed me to get a better understanding of the world, broaden my horizons and scope and helped me become a stronger writer. My love for history ,I believe, comes to compliment the above. It has enabled me to come up,to form strong ,valid arguments. Last but not least, another prerequisite for any aspirant, promising lawyer-or professional for that matter- is having good organisational skills ,time management included . I certainly do possess

this kind of skills since through the International Baccalaureate program prioritising along with managing my time in the appropriate manner have been instilled in me. I wish to study law abroad and more specifically in the United Kingdom. The British academic educational system is widely recognised and respected thus offering more opportunities for professional evolvement .Another reason why I would rather study in the UK is that on completion of my studies I intend to pursue a master in Arabic law and having studied at a British university will give me better access to a number of well reputed universities that offer such courses.Britain being multi-cultural and diverse will expose me to different cultures enabling me at the same time to get to know them better, becoming familiar with different lifestyles, beliefs, approaches something that I perceive as an additional asset for whomevever wants to follow an international career or at least wants to keep his or her options open.
