SpeakUpAustin!

Can a CODE really improve your quality of life? We think so...Great cities plan and design for the future. We're about to revisit a land development code written 30 years ago that has been amended hundreds of times over the years, is complex, and needs changes to help us create the kinds of places we want. The Imagine Austin plan lays out our vision for a complete, compact and connected city. To achieve the community vision, we must update Austin's land development code, which determines how land can be used throughout our city, including WHAT can be built, WHERE it can be built, and HOW MUCH can be built. This will be a unique process with new tools and approaches based on understanding the character of your neighborhood and the larger community. We want to hear your experiences and stories about the places where you live, work and play. What is working and what could be improved? Speak up, Austin! 1. When you think about the areas where you live, work or go to school, and hang out, what is it you really enjoy or like about those places? What are the characteristics of those places, or your experience of them, that you find appealing? 2. On the other hand, when you think about the areas where you live, work or go to school, and hang out, are there things you dislike or wish were different? What characteristics or experiences do you find unappealing? 3. Based on your understanding of Land Development Code and how it affects what, how and where things can be built, what are the most important issues to address while revising the Code? 4. Have you had experience dealing with the Land Development Code? If yes, please provide any specific comments about your experience: 5.
