You might want to copy the verses that really “hit you directly” on 3 x 5 cards.
Write an essay about divine peace and what you think the best verses in this
collection are. How would you teach the best 3 verses? My underlining might
help. This assignment is worth 3 units, so write at least 4 quality pages.

Isaiah 9:6-7 “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
And He will be called
Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David's throne and over His kingdom,
establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.”
Romans 1:7 “To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father
and from the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Luke 7:36-38 & 47-50 “Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him,
so He went to the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table.
When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town
learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house,
she brought an alabaster jar of perfume,
and as she stood behind Him at His feet weeping,
she began to wet His feet with her tears.
Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them
and poured perfume on them….
“‘Therefore, I tell you,
her many sins have been forgiven for she loved much.
But he who has been forgiven little loves little.’
Then Jesus said to her, ‘Your sins are forgiven.’
The other guests began to say among themselves,
‘Who is this Who even forgives sins?’
Jesus said to the woman, ‘Your faith has saved you; go in peace.’”
Luke 8:46-47 “But Jesus said, ‘Someone touched Me; I know that power has gone out from Me.’
Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed,
came trembling and fell at His feet.
In the presence of all the people,
she told why she had touched Him
and how she had been instantly healed.
Then He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has healed you.
Go in peace.’”
John 14:25-27 “‘All this I [Jesus Christ] have spoken while still with you.
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name,
will teach you all things
and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.’”
John 16:33 “‘I [Jesus Christ] have told you these things,
so that in Me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart!
I have overcome the world.’”

John 20:19-21 & 26 “On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together,
with the doors locked for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood among them and said,
‘Peace be with you!’
After He said this, He showed them His hands and side.
The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you!
As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’
And with that He breathed on them and said,
‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’….
A week later His disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them.
Though the doors were locked,
Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’
Then He said to Thomas,
‘Put your finger here; see My hands.
Reach out your hand and put it into My side.
Stop doubting and believe.’”
Colossians 3:15-17 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
since as members of one body
you were called to peace.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom,
and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs
with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
2 Thessalonians 3:13-16 “And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.
If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter,

Ephesians 4:1-5 “As a prisoner for the Lord, then,

Acts 10:34-36 “Then Peter began to speak:
‘I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism
but accepts men from every nation who fear Him and do what is right.
You know the message God sent to the people of Israel,
telling the good news of peace
through Jesus Christ, Who is Lord of all’.”
Romans 5:1-5 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through Whom we have gained access by faith
into this grace in which we now stand.
And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings,
because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
perseverance, character; and character, hope.
And hope does not disappoint us,
because God has poured out His love
into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, Whom He has given us.”
Ephesians 6:13-18 “Therefore put on the full armor of God,
so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then,
with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,
with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
and with your feet fitted with the readiness
that comes from the Gospel of peace.
In addition to all this,
take up the shield of faith,
with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the Word of God.

Psalm 85:8-10 “I will listen to what God the LORD will say;
for He promises peace to His people, His saints
but let them not return to folly.
Surely His Salvation is near those who fear Him,
that His glory may dwell in our land.
Love and faithfulness meet together;
righteousness and peace kiss each other.” [Romans 14:17]
Psalm 119:165 “‘Great peace have they who love Your [God’s] Law,
and nothing can make them stumble.’”
Isaiah 32:17-18 “The fruit of righteousness will be peace;
the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.
My people will live in peaceful dwelling places,
in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.”
Acts 9:31 “Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace.
It was strengthened and encouraged by the Holy Spirit,
it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the LORD.”
Romans 2:6-11 “God ‘will give to each person according to what he [or she] has done.’
To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality,
He will give eternal life.
But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil,
there will be wrath and anger.
There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil:
first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;
but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good:
first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
For God does not show favoritism.”
Romans 8:5-8 “Those who live according to the sinful nature
have their minds set on what that nature desires;
but those who live in accordance with the Spirit
have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
The mind of sinful man is death,
but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;
the sinful mind is hostile to God.
It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.
Those controlled by the sinful nature
cannot please God.”
Romans 14: 13-19 “Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another.
Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle
in your brother's way.
As one who is in the Lord Jesus,
I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself.
But if anyone regards something as unclean,
then for him it is unclean.
If your brother is distressed because of what you eat,
you are no longer acting in love.
Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died.
Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil.
For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking,
but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,
because anyone who serves Christ in this way

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
as you trust in Him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Philippians 4:4-9 “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Let your gentleness be evident to all.
The Lord is near.
Do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble,
whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--
if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—
think about such things.

Hebrews 12:7-11 “Endure hardship as discipline;
God is treating you as sons [and daughters].
For what son is not disciplined by his father?
If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline),
then you are illegitimate children and not true sons.
Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us
and we respected them for it.
How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!
Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best;
but God disciplines us for our good,
that we may share in His holiness.
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.
Later on, however, it produces a harvest of
righteousness and peace
for those who have been trained by it.”
Isaiah 57:2 “Those who walk uprightly enter into peace;
they find rest as they lie in death.”
Revelation 1:4-5 “John to the seven churches which are in Asia, Grace and peace to you
from Him Who is, and Who was, and Who is to come,
and from the seven spirits before His throne,
and from Jesus Christ, Who is the faithful witness,
the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the Earth….”

Keep away from them.
For such people are not serving our Lord Christ,
but their own appetites.
By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.
Everyone has heard about your obedience,
so I am full of joy over you;
but I want you to be wise about what is good,
and innocent about what is evil.
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”
Psalm 37:7-11 “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret
it leads only to evil.
For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD
will inherit the land.
A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.
But the meek will inherit the land

Isaiah 25:8-26:4 “He will swallow up death forever.
The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces;
He will remove the disgrace of His people from all the Earth.
The LORD has spoken. In that day they will say,
‘Surely this is our God; we trusted in Him, and He saved us.
This is the LORD, we trusted in Him;
let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.’
The hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain;
but Moab will be trampled under Him
as straw is trampled down in the manure.
They will spread out their hands in it,
as a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim.
God will bring down their pride despite the cleverness of their hands.
He will bring down your high fortified walls and lay them low;
He will bring them down to the ground, to the very dust.
In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
‘We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts.
Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter,
the nation that keeps faith.
You will keep in perfect peace him [or her] whose mind is steadfast,
because he [or she] trusts in You.’
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.’”
