Vocabulary Guide
The Story
Another feature of Linguaphone allTalk and a useful and entertaining way to check all the language youre learning is the dramatised story that occurs regularly throughout the course. The course evolves around a series of story dialogues: George Wickham is the Assistant Marketing Manager for Snaktrak, a company which produces high-performance foods for people on the go. At the last minute, George is sent to Paris for four days as Snaktraks English representative at the International Food Fair in place of the companys usual representative, Philip Saville, who has suddenly fallen ill. George doesnt speak any French. Fortunately, help is at hand in the person of Snaktraks temporary agent in France, Hlne Andole. Hlne, who works for Salon Plus, a company specialising in trade fairs and conferences, speaks some English, and as George moves through the week, Hlne helps him with both the French language and French culture. The story of Georges visit to Paris begins at the very start of the course in Unit 1, when he arrives by Eurostar at one of the main stations, the Gare du Nord. The story dialogues continue through the succeeding units.
Unit
At the end of each unit theres a chance to hear some of the story dialogues again, often in a slightly modified form. In the final unit, theres a further chance to test your new language with a compilation in an even more modified form of most of the story dialogues about George and his visit to Paris.
