After working within Nitro Snowboards for over one year now I have really seen how special this core snowboard company is. The fact that there are employees from and living all over the world gives us an international advantage over most snowboarding companies. The company itself has a great understanding of what each worldwide market needs. We have employees working on projects twenty-four hours a day around the world. Another factor that makes Nitro strong and unique is the people who work for Nitro. We do not have an excessive amount of employees, but there is a perfect amount of passionate people working for a company and lifestyle they love. We have the passion and flexibility to always make last minute adjustments for any of our shops, distributors, and customers. This year we created our movie, Hyped!, which was all about showing the passion each one of our athletes has for snowboarding. I feel this same passion throughout the whole company. From the regional team riders to the owners... everyone at Nitro wants to spread the joy of snowboarding to all the shops, distributors and the rest of the world. What is it like designing the L1 outerwear and being a Pro Snowboarder at the same time? It gets kind of tricky sometimes, but Im still new to it. I wouldnt change it for the world though. What is a typical day in the summer for you? I get up around 7:30 or so make coffee, check my email, and start on whatever I need to do for the day. Around 9:30 or 10 I try to skate for a few hours, then its back to whatever I was working on. I would say thats how a typical day usually goes. Some days are busier, some days I can skate more or ride my bike if I want. What is your favorite L1 Pant and Jacket? Im a fan of the Skinny Denim pant and the Chieftan parka. How long have you been into designing clothes and outerwear? Its been about 6 years now. The first time I tried to design outerwear was right when I started riding for L1. We got our own signature pieces and I just thought it would be better if I made drawings of what I wanted. You were one of the first pro snowboarders to start with the street wear inspired - snowboarding outerwear - how did that all come about? I think it started with just wanting to wear jeans snowboarding... I wanted to feel like I was wearing normal clothing, and up to that point you had to wear stuff that wasnt very functional in the snow. When Jordan and I got on L1 Mike and Tonino told us that we could have signature pieces, they wanted It was never intentional but I think in a way it kind of was my side project. Ive been sewing and tailoring my own clothes for over 10 years now, as well as sending in designs for L1 ideas. Its always been something I enjoyed doing. How do you see snowboarding outerwear in 10 years? I dont know, hopefully it still snows in 10 years. Ha Ha! What do you want to contribute to snowboarding? Im not sure... I just want to make outerwear people are excited to wear, and leave behind some video parts. our stuff to fit and look like stuff we actually wore. I thought that was a really cool concept because most outerwear companies at the time wouldve just said you guys need to wear snow pants, not lets make snow pants that look like jeans for you. I would say those two are really the ones responsible for introducing that style of outerwear to snowboarding. Where do you get your inspiration from for designing? Everywhere... Skating, motorcycles, music, friends, snowboarding, and old movies. I feel like I just see something and think those pockets are cool, or that would be rad as a snowboard jacket. I just kind of take bits and pieces from here and there. A lot of professional snowboarders always have side projects during their career - some do music - some make art - was your side project designing outerwear and clothing?

Looptroop was formed in 1991 by Promoe and Embee. The two had met while attending school in Vsters and were still in their teens at the time of the groups inception. Cos.M.I.C joined shortly thereafter and in 1993 the group independently released their cassette-only debut EP Superstars, which was followed in 1995 by Threesicksteez. By the time they released their third cassette, From The Wax Cabinet (1996), long-time associate and frequent collaborator Supreme had become a permanent member of the group. It was in the pre-DVSG time when Promoe and Cos.M.I.C were also part of a group of graffiti writers called the BIF (Babylon Is Falling) crew in Vsters.

In 1998, Looptroop started their own record label, David Vs. Goliath (commonly referred to as DVSG), and with distribution handled by the Swedish punkrock label Burning Heart Records they released t heir full-length debut album Modern Day City Symphony in 2000. The album managed to sell reasonably well despite limited media exposure and spawned the underground hit single Long Arm of the Law, which took a critical stance towards the Swedish police force and has since become one of Looptroops signature songs. Whats the secret to their longevity and constancy? How have they been able to transcend the Swedish and the international hiphop scenes, thus avoiding the ups and downs of them? How have they created their own niche from where theyve reached people through the constant media bombardment? First of all its taken a strong work ethic made possible through the conviction that your business is your pleasure, and that the two perhaps shouldnt be separated. And that as a tight knit group, believing in and loving each other; no stumbling block can stop you only make you stronger. With that strength comes the independence that makes you realize your worth and not sell yourself short in the cut throat music industry. And with maturity comes the humbleness that makes you realize your limitations and search for good partners and strong bonds in that same industry. Its been important to find and sometimes create an infrastructure to reach out with the music, which in Looptroops case has meant being on the road for the majority of their career. Through the social sacrifices that have been the result of that lifestyle they have still never lost the ability to dream. Embee embodies the world famous Nordic melancholy like no other producer, and his unique music has become one of the trademarks that have set them aside from other acts. His hard hitting beats, laced with deeply reflective melodies create an enchanting universe for the listener to explore. Lyrically, theyve rarely wanted to waste peoples precious time with nonsense rhymes and the messages, of politics, independence, love, life and death; have appealed to people all over the world; from South Africa to Chile, Australia to Poland and from the US back to Sweden. With an incredible ability to recreate themselves, fans sometimes fear what will come next but the Troop has always needed that constant evolution not to stagnate or get tired of themselves.

THE GLITZY AND THE GRITTY
Estevan Oriol started his career in entertainment as a bouncer at hip-hop clubs before moving on to tour manage acts Cypress Hill and House of Pain. During that time he became passionate about photography and began documenting his life on the road. When he returned home, his reputation afforded him unlimited access to photograph gang members and celebrities alike. His work has been featured in Complex, FHM, GQ, Vibe, Rolling Stone, and dozens more. Oriol has directed music videos for Eminem, Cypress Hill, Blink 182 and others. His recent photography book, LA Woman captures the beauty and danger of the subject in a lush hardbound edition a decade in the making. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Oriol pulls inspiration from the city and reflects its sensibilities in his work. Southern California juxtaposes the glitzy and the gritty more than anyplace on Earth and those extremes are visible both in Oriols choice of subject and execution. Whether hes photographing gang life, a fashion model, or Dr. Dre, there is a voice in his work that is distinctly LA bred.

I grew up surfing and the idea of a quiver is extremely common. Waves are different everyday and the board you ride completely changes the experience in the water. Same goes for snowboarding, I like to have a couple different boards each year to travel with. A short, soft, flat park/rail board to go mess around with at the resort or in the city. A somewhat stiffer, longer powder/jump board to take into the backcountry and haul ass. A short, wide, maneuverable powder ripper to take out on deep days to wiggle through the trees and get wild in the pow. I am very stoked Nitro has gotten behind the idea of building a quiver. The graphics are surf inspired as well, classic and simple enough that they wont become dated. Hope you enjoy them.

Justin Bennee loved riding the Swindle 152 so much that he wanted to put his own graphic on it. With the help of artist Dave Doman, they were able to come up with a graphic that is both funny and true to Justins personality. The idea behind my first Pro One-Off graphic came from the constant battle we face while trying to do our jobs as a pro snowboarder, trying to use wits to outsmart the cops. This board captures what Im sure most cops fear, a shank. So when youre riding this board it should fend off trouble from the police, use your skills to swindle them. - JUSTIN BENNEE

LOOPTROOP rockers Limited Edition CINEMA board Looptroop was formed in 1991 by Promoe and Embee. The two had met while attending school in Vsters and were still in their teens at the time of the groups inception. Cos.M.I.C joined shortly thereafter and in 1993 the group independently released their cassette-only debut EP Superstars, which was followed in 1995 by Threesicksteez. Looptroop started their own record label, David Vs. Goliath (commonly referred to as DVSG), and with distribution handled by the Swedish punkrock label Burning Heart Records they released their full-length debut album Modern Day City Symphony in 2000. The album managed to sell reasonably well despite limited media exposure and spawned the underground hit single Long Arm of the Law, which took a critical stance towards the Swedish police force and has since become one of LooptIroops signature songs. By rider testing each garment to ensure that nothing has been overlooked, we have, once again, redefined the technical limits of fabric, function and fit. Close collaboration between our team riders and designers has resulted in innovative new features for 2013-14, such as our 3.5 Layer Cocona Shell, Breathing hole and redefined fits.
The Substance Collection features classic fits with signature Nitro colors and styling. COCONA 3.5 LAYER 80% Polyester / 20% PU Our most technical fabric ever, featuring patented Cocona technology. It is highly waterproof and extremely breathable.
MULTI RIPS 10K/10K 100% Nylon This is a lightweight ripstop with an irregular cross hatch pattern. Utilized in our high loft insulated jackets, it is lighter and stronger than most other nylon fabrics.
LUMBER CHECK 8K/8K 100% Polyester Our version of this plaid is more refined, with a slight herringbone pattern over a traditional gingham check. Its flat surface ensures no pilling or snowball effects.
HERRINGBONE SLUB TWILL 10K/10K 100% Polyester A multidimensional fabric with a herringbone pattern layered on top of a slub surface, resulting in a highly unique, signature look.
FEATHERS EMBOSS 10K/10K 100% Nylon Embossed feather pattern on our nylon Dobby fabric.
SCROLL DOTS PRINT 8K/8K 100% Polyester A new take on classic polka dots - in classic black and white.
DOBBY 15K/15K, 10K/10K, 8K/8K 100% Nylon Our Dobby fabric looks like a raised, dotted grid texture with a heavier hand and a matte color. Dobby is used as our base fabric as it is very durable and cost effective.
HEATHERED 10K/10K, 8K/8K 70% Nylon / 30% Polyester This nylon/poly blend creates a two-tone fabric that has a heathered effect, allowing for softer colors and a more natural fiber look.
HANDSUP PRINT 8K/8K 100% Polyester High density printing on our standard print fabric results in colorful imagery with deep, rich highs and lows.
DESERT CAMO ON BROKEN TWILL 15K/15K, 10K/10K 100% Polyester We printed this traditional military print onto our broken twill fabric for enhanced authenticity. A distressed look gives it a further feel of the battlefield.
INSULATION DETAILS
PRIMALOFT INFINITY PrimaLoft INFINITY is a continuous filament insulation that has remarkable thermal performance. Its continuous filament structure is more consistent than standard insulations, resulting in the elimination of cold spots, excellent breathability and outstanding wet performance. Even after extensive wear and repeated washing, its durable construction will continue to perform. PrimaLoft INFINITY is an extremely warm, soft and comfortable insulation that will keep you warm and dry in the most extreme conditions. SYNTHETIC DOWN Synthetic down offers similar heat retention to natural down, but it is hypoallergenic and free of mites. There is no need to scrim bag each baffle, meaning less down migration and cold spots. Synthetic down is highly effective, consistent insulation for modern outerwear. Cocona is committed to the pursuit of industry leadership.
At Nitro, we believe that pushing the limits and boundaries of outerwear standards creates stronger and better performing garments. For 2013-14, we present Cocona Technology in select pieces of outerwear. These pieces feature a 3.5 layer shell fabric developed by Cocona. Cocona Technology has developed waterproof, breathable fabric that is not only extremely waterproof but, more importantly, extremely breathable. Many brand name fabrics currently in use in the industry boast highly waterproof fabric, but moisture from the body usually soaks the wearer from the inside out. Sweat and condensation in critical conditions make you wet and leave you feeling cold, clammy and uncomfortable. Cocona Technology has solved this problem with Active Particles. Cocona Patented Technology permanently incorporates natural Active Particles, featuring micro-porous structures, into fibers, fabrics, polymers and films. These active particles have been tested against industry standards and have been found to enhance the performance of fabrics by 30-50%. The benefits of Cocona technology include: increased waterproofing, breathability, dry times, UV protection and odor management. Evaporative Cooling Cocona fabrics spread moisture over a vast surface area created by the Active Particles, accelerating evaporation, reducing dry times and keeping users dry and comfortable in both hot and cold environments. Odor Management Odors are absorbed into the Active Particles and then released with normal laundering, thereby refreshing the garment. UV Protection Active Particles absorb UV rays, shielding the wearer from the suns harmful effects. Natural Technology Cocona Technology uses activated carbon derived from recycled coconut shells and naturally occurring minerals. What is Cocona Technology? Patented technology that keeps Active Particles functioning in fibers, fabrics, membrane laminates and insulation. These Active Particles are permanently embedded, will not wear or wash out and are refreshed with normal laundering. How does it do that? The technology encapsulates natural Active Particles during the production process then exposes them at the surface of the material. This keeps the Active Particles active and working and is the ONLY technology in the world that can do this. What are Active Particles? We use Active Particles from the earth or from recycled coconut shells. These natural Active Particles are completely safe, add no additional weight and have billions of micro-pores that create an enormous surface area. They are also used for moisture control in household appliances and in a variety of industries including packaging, medical applications, filtration and humidity regulation. How do Cocona Active Particles work? Cocona Active Particles attract moisture into the micro-pores, vaporize it and absorb your body heat, accelerating evaporation and drying faster than any other product or system on the market today. Cocona Active Particles also attract odor molecules and provide UVA & UVB protection. How will I feel in products with Cocona Technology? You will be drier faster and longer, less clammy and more comfortable. Being dry will keep you cooler when its warm and warmer when its cold. QLS 4 Quick Lacing System Why should the smallest shredders not benefit from advanced boot tech? The QLS 4 system benefits from all the same tech features of the TLS 4, such as thin laces and a mechanism with optimized metal cleats. The QLS is the ultimate system for small boots and small hands: easy to use, effortless and fast. ILS (Internal Lacing System) Our ILS system features a lacing harness firmly connected to the boot shell. FTI EVO 2 AIR CHASSIS Double Air technology meets FTI, featuring our Mini Disc to maximize the available dampening area. Newly redesigned with added heel corner dampening, the FTI EVO2 AIR features huge cut-outs for airbags in the toe and heel to bring the weight down while a new coring pattern enhances strength and response. This chassis is available in a carbon or glass fiber reinforced nylon composite. All versions now have super cush CANTED DUAL DENSITY EVA padding as well as all the best features from the FTI chassis, such as stance fine adjustment and quick heelcup micro adjustment. FTI AIR CHASSIS The FTI Air chassis is a huge step forward in lightweight binding design and dampening. By opening up the sub-frame on the heel, we were able to insert a full-size airbag - not some micro gel pad or rubber bubble, but a full-size airbag that will absorb icy park landings and huge street drops, taking the impact instead of your back, knees and ankles. The FTI Air chassis also features our Mini Disc for maximum board flex. FTI CHASSIS The Fast Track Interface (FTI) chassis is our perfect blend of fiber reinforced nylon and T6 aluminum to create an ultra lightweight binding with incredible response and enhanced board feel, all without the rigidity of a 100% metal binding. Our exclusive Fast Track system securely attaches the heel cup at the front of the binding without hardware, which increases leverage and transfers power faster from heel to toe. It also allows you to quickly micro adjust your bindings with just two screws at the heel while keeping your foot always centered within the binding. The FTI chassis also features our Mini Disc for maximum board flex. Precision FIT 2 Chassis Our most efficient suspension technology is now available in a one-piece binding chassis. Dampening like no other one-piece binding in the line-up, the Precision FIT 2 chassis features Queen size airbags in the toe and heel to deliver unrivalled shock absorption and support while massively reducing weight. Fiberglass loaded Nylon material guarantees best strength and response at a minimum weight. Precision FIT Chassis Nitros original precision fit base. ASYM HIGHBACK SUPPORT Our asymmetrical highback designs are built for the quickest response from rider to board. The Asym design better accommodates todays stances from 21 inches and up. To ensure maximum response and align the pressure to the middle of the boot, the highback support axis is shifted 5 degrees inwards. NITRO DUAL AIR DAMPENING The Dual AIR concept extends the shock absorbing qualities known from heel airbags to the toe area while significantly reducing the weight of the binding. FEA optimized cushion columns provide the support and response you can rely on. During hard landings, these dampeners collapse and efficiently absorb energy, while an additional gel insert in the heel eliminates high frequency vibration. CANTED NITRO AIR DAMPENING Sparked by the teams wish list, these cushions combine the ergonomics of canted foot bed with the shock absorption qualities known for Nitros unique air dampening system. Riding in a more relaxed stand at wide stances lets you ride hard without getting beaten. EVA BASE DAMPENING EVA footbeds dampen vibration for increased comfort and improved control while providing great shock absorption from big drops and hard landings. Weight has been reduced using a fiber-reinforced composite material, allowing the binding to be mounted and micro-adjusted on any common 2x4 insert pattern. The smaller disc means more space to cushion your ride without sacrificing adjustability while the small mounting footprint, combined with a slightly softer material, significantly reduces the bindings impact on board flex. Mounting your binding just got easier! - The new angle lock feature allows you to set your binding angle before mounting it to your board without loosing your setting in the process. PROFILED ERGO CUT ANKLE STRAP Using an ergonomically shaped outline, these straps have a tapered profile towards both ends to fit more snugly in the connection areas while still providing lots of cush in the central impact zone. PROFILED ASYM ERGO CUT ANKLE STRAP WITH FLEX WINDOW The Asym Ergo Cut features an asymmetrical shape, providing more medial flex for freestyle riding while supporting the lateral side of the boot. Combined with a tapered thickness profile, this stap is the ultimate in control and freedom. LSD - LADDER SPEED DEVICE - ALIGNMENT PREMIUM CONTROL CUT ANKLE STRAPS These straps are bigger and have more area to cover the ankle. Featuring our ultra-soft super foam and internal 3D molded frame, these straps can be cranked down even tighter without getting any pressure points. PREMIUM SLIM CUT ANKLE STRAPS Our Slim Cut ankle straps have a narrower profile for improved flex and freedom of movement. Incorporating our super memory foam for lasting comfort and additional leather reinforcements on the top and sides, this design can take any abuse you can dish out. S-CURVED LADDERS AND CONNECTOR STRAPS These pre-curved ladders stay out of your way when stepping into the binding, but slide into the buckles effortlessly.
