Grade Service Project: High 5 Guys

We created this service project to bridge the gap between the sixth grade and eighth grade students. Its important for sixth graders to understand upperclassman expectationsacademically and socially. Our objective is that sixth grade students have an eighth grade buddy with whom they can relate. On the other hand, the eighth grade students are maturing and preparing for high school. Its a great opportunity for these eighth grade students to reflect and share their experiences, as they will soon move down a similar path transitioning to high school. We hope that through these relationships, our school will become a bit smaller and more manageable for each of the participants. Name and Purpose: High 5 Guys It is our hope that both, sixth and eighth grade students will benefit equally from each other. For that reason, instead of calling the project, a big buddy/little buddy or mentor/mentee program, we decided to call it the High 5 Guys. Why? The service project will be centered on five pillars (will be imbedded in activities): 1. Character 2. Academics 3. Service 4. School Spirit 5. Fun Also, the participants will reinforce these principles by always greeting their buddies with a high 5.
