CS224 Exam Policy

Lateness: No student will be admitted into the exam room more than 30 minutes after the start of the exam, no matter what the reason for the lateness. For example, if the exam starts at 17:40, then late students will be accepted up until 18:10, but not after that. Leaving early: Students may not leave the exam room until at least 30 minutes after the start of the exam. (This will allow late coming students to be admitted during that 30 minute period). Thereafter, if a student leaves the exam, they are finished; when they leave, they must turn in their paper; once they leave, they may not return. For this reason, there will be no 'bathroom trips' permitted during the exam. Seating and identification: Seating will be assigned, so students should wait for the proctor's directions to see which room and which desk has been assigned to them. Students must bring and show picture ID to verify their identity to the proctor. Students without picture ID will not be admitted to the exam. Materials: The exam is open book, closed notes. This means that a clean textbook (Digital Design and Computer Architecture, 2nd ed, by Harris & Harris), with no notes of any kind written on any page, may be used. Any book with notes written in it will be considered 'cheat notes' and the student using such a book will be considered to have cheated during the exam (see below for the policy---Zero Tolerance). All pages must be completely erased, except as noted below. No notes of any kind are permitted during the exam. 'Notes' are defined as symbols or equations or words, including Turkish words. In the textbook, only highlighting, underlining, and arrows will be permitted; these will not be considered as notes. Cell phones and tablets are not allowed during the exam. Calculators are allowed, and students should bring a calculator with them (Note: PDAs, cell phones, etc may not be used as calculators). All paper will be provided by the proctor, so students need only bring a clean book, pencil and eraser, plus a good quality calculator for numerical problems. Exam answers: The solution to each problem should be written only on the front and back sides of the same page that contains the question or on the relevant drawing or diagram (if such is provided). First the front side of the question paper should be used for your response, then the back side. If this is not enough space, then the proctor will provide an additional page upon request, which should be used only for the rest of the solution of that one problem. The extra page (to continue the answer) must be stapled with the other parts of the answer, NOT at the end, as the last page of the exam! Under no circumstance should any page (whether part of the stapled exam pages given initially, or whether given later as an additional page by the proctor) contain the answers or parts of the answers to more than one problem! Any extra page given is just to be used for the continuation of one question, and you should ask the proctor to staple it into the proper place in the exam booklet, immediately following (and continuing) the page for that question. If a problem solution is not in the right place, it may not be seen and will not be graded! Students should take extreme care to write their answers in the correct place!!! Cheating: Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Taking someone else's idea or solution is plagiarism! For this reason, there can be no talking, passing notes, use of books with notes, use of cell phones, PDAs, etc, use of papers (other than the given exam pages and blank papers) etc during the exam. Students who fail to adhere to this policy will be reported to the Engineering Faculty Discipline Commission. For specific details regarding this, refer to the Ogrenci Disiplin Ilke ve Kurallari. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHEAT--there is Zero Tolerance!!
