HYDROSTATICS PRACTICUM REPORT

I. II.

GOAL THEORY

: Finding the density of liquid. : According to the Hydrostatics Main Law, if there are two

kinds of liquids in U tube in the same point level, they will have the same normal stresses. FA = FB Fhid.A + Bar 1.g.h1 + Bar 1.h1 2 = 2.h2 = (h1/h2). 1 = Fhid.B + Bar = 2.g.h2 + Bar

A. TOOLS AND MATERIALS Ohauss balance measuring cup U pipe Pipette Water Coconut oil Millimeter block

B. THE STEPS EXPERIMENT 1. Weigh the empty measuring cup ml = 43.5 gram; measuring cup and fill with water, note the water volume V = 20 cc, and weigh it again measuring cup of water m2 = 79.5 gram , water = = = 1.8 gram/ml

2. Pour the water to U tube, to the left side to to a height of +10 cm. 3. Pour a little coconut oil through the mouth right pipe U, note the water level (h1) and oil (h2) and count 2=h1/h2. 1 (see image). 4. Repeat third step by adding the oil a few times and record the data and insert it into the colum. water = 1000 gr/cc (25C) No 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. hi of Water (cm) 5 5 5 5 5 hi of Oil (cm) 1.5 3 4.5 6 7.5 hf of Water (cm) 5.5 6.3 7.2 7.7 8.6 = (h1/h2). DATA AND CALCULATIONS

1. Data analysis of the density of the water

From experiments data obtained by water mass = 79,5 43,5 = 36 gram volume of water density = 20 ml = m/v = 36/20 = 1,8 gram/cm3

Table of calculation the density of the oil No 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. h0 of Water (cm) 5 5 5 5 5 hi of Oil (cm) 1.5 3 4.5 6 7.5 hf of Water (cm) 5.5 6.3 7.2 7.7 8.6 oil = (hf/hi). Water 3.6 2.1 1.6 1.28 1.146

H0 represent the initial height of the water, h i represent the height of the oil that is poured into the tube, and h f represent the height of the water after the oil is poured. From the data and the calculation above, the increasing of the oil volume in the tube, cause the density of the oil decrease.

2. What is the force and hydrostatic pressure?

a.

Hydrostatic force is the force that the fluid contained in a static condition (no flow).

b. Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure coming from the weight of the liquid.

3. Mention which The Hydrostatics Main Law applies !

The Hydrostatics Main Law force on U pipe (laver relates) that filled from more than one kind of liquid that does not mix. U pipe experiments is typically used to determine the density of liquids. Under hydrostatic pressure, we can determine the hydrostatic force acting on the base of the laver.

4. Mention a device for measuring the density of liquids and whether the

working principles apply? The device for measuring the density is Hygrometer. It works using the Law of Archimedes principle, which states that an object which is

submerged in a of fluid will experience a force upright equal to the weight of the fluid displacement.

5.

Calculate on the problem in question below !

Known :

P1 P2 P3

= = = = = = :

1 gr/cc 13.6 gr/cc 0.8 gr/cc 4 cm 8 cm ....?

a. Known:

h2 h3 h1

Answer

P1.h1 + P3.h3 = P2.h2 1.h1 + 0.8.8 = 13.6.4 h1 + 6.4 h1 b. Known: h1 h3 Answer P1.h1 + P3.h3 1.20 + 0.8.8 20 + 6.4 h2 = 54.4 = 54.4-6.4 = 48 cm = = : = P2.h2 = 13.6.h2 = 13.6h2 = = 1.9412 cm 20 cm 8 cm

V.

CONCLUSION Base on the data from the experiment, we can conclude that the increasing volume of the oil in the U pipe, cause the density of the oil decrease.
