CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Project Context Through the years, E-commerce has revolutionized the way businesses are being

made. A lot of companies and business firms have gone from that being it conventional offers. to online by due to the

advantages

E-commerce,

its

simplest

definition, is the buying and selling of products and services by businesses and consumers over the Internet. E-commerce sites such as online stores and brochure sites have allowed businesses to deliver and display information about products and services online thus increasing its business opportunities as well as its profits. Infocom Solutions Powerlinks Co. is a Butuan-based company that offers IT products and services for clients around the province. The company is engaged in selling and installation of CCTV Surveillance Cameras, PABX Telephone Systems, Biometrics Identification and Door Access Control Systems as well as

computer and networking services. Being a successful contractor of Bayan Telecommunications and a service provider for LECSL installation/configuration, the company is now looking for ways on how to improve their business.
1

Due to this, the researchers develop an e-commerce website for Infocom Solutions Powerlinks Co. that will enable the

business firm to showcase their products and services online. In addition, the proposed website will include a knowledge-base

system that will provide troubleshooting tips to site visitors with regards to basic computer and surveillance camera problems. Purpose and Description of the Study This study aims to create an e-commerce website for Infocom Solutions Powerlinks Co. that will allow the company to conduct online transactions and improve their company services through the use of the World Wide Web. Through the proposed E-commerce website, dissemination of product and services information as well as transactions of orders within the company will become faster and hassle-free. Overall, the website will be helpful to Infocom Solutions Powerlinks Co. Objectives of the Study The objectives of this study are the following: 1.) Create an E-commerce Website for Infocom Solutions

Powerlinks Co. that will enable them to promote and sell products and services online. 2.) Provide accurate information about the companys products and services to potential customers online.
2

3.) Provide a knowledge-base system for basic troubleshooting computer and cctv problems online. Scope and Limitations of the Study The proposed study is modeled as an E-commerce website that will focus on promoting and selling the companys products and services online. The site will provide accurate product

specifications of the products including sample videos of cctv cameras to give a preview of its surveillance capabilities to customers. Since it is an e-commerce site, adding products to cart will be implemented. With regards to the companys online services, an online expert system for basic CCTV and computer troubleshooting will be developed on the site so that customers/site visitors will be given with the proper diagnosis about their problems. Though the proposed site is considered to be an e-commerce website, it will not include online payments. Payments for

customer orders are still done manually. Furthermore, due to the geographical location of the company, order transactions will only be applicable to clients in Agusan del Norte and limited cities in Agusan del Sur.

significantly altering the manner that traditional commerce is undertaken (Eshun & Taylor, 2009). However, for successful business venture in the virtual

world, it is not enough to have a website. Proper care has to be given before developing a website. It should be strategically placed in the online web world to achieve long lasting results. Before finalizing the ecommerce web development, one must

brainstorm and plan in order to exploit all the benefits of the ecommerce website in the most optimum way. According to Wiley, Y.M.J. & Sons (1997), a good e-commerce site should present the following factors: easy scanning and selecting items in a list, effective categorical organization of products, simple navigation from home page to information and order links for specific products and consistent layout of

information.
4

Customer feedback should also be encouraged so that online stores become customer focused. Obtaining feedback enables the seller to know how one is performing, whether the customers have any issues which need to be straightened up, and to see how customers think of the products and services being sold in the Internet (Choudhury, 2008). Feedback must also be effectively harnessed to ensure that users do not simply give up on sites but rather stay and spend their money, thus ensuring the

continued presence of the e-commerce site (Renaud,K.V. Kotze,P. Van Dyk, T.J., 2001). Technical Background The E-commerce Website for Infocom Solutions Powerlinks Co. will be beneficial to both the company and its customers. The site will not only promote the products and services but also provide online transactions. By this, doing business

transactions will become faster and more efficient. The website enables the company to feature their products online. In the site, the administrator can add, delete and

update products in the site. Viewing order details and online customer inquiry response can also be done by the administrator. On the other hand, the customers can transact orders

online. They can add products to cart and proceed to checkout.

In the checkout page, they will have to input the necessary details to complete the order. After completing it, they can now purchase the products and they are prompted by a message

regarding their order details. In order to obtain the necessary functionalities of the proposed website, the researchers decided to use PHP, a widelyused general-purpose and Mysql of scripting for the its language, to construct these two, its the more

expertise2go expert system shell, an open-source software for expert system generation. Using this shell, developing the

knowledge-base system became faster and hassle-free.

CHAPTER 2 METHODOLOGY This Chapter covers the research method and procedures on how the system will be constructed. This includes the needed instruments for the development of the system. Requirements Specification Webhost In order to implement the website online, the researchers subscribed to a free webhosting site to test its online

functionality. Tools

Design Implementation The second phase is the implementation of the design and functionality of the website. In order to develop the design and functions of the website, the researchers used PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) which is used as the scripting language and MySQL as the database. System Testing The third phase is the system testing. First, the system was run through the localhost using XAMPP. After debugging the system, it was then transferred to the webhost in order to test its functionality online.

26

CHAPTER 3 RECOMMENDATIONS This chapter covers the implementation plan and some

recommendations that may help enhance the performance of the system for future usage. Implementation Plan The proposed E-commerce website will be implemented online through online web hosting services. All files will be uploaded to the webhost. After uploading, the system will be tested in order to ensure that the necessary functionalities of the site are working properly and to check if there are any

irregularities and bugs. Maintenance will also be implemented from time to time in order to make sure that the site is at its full functionality for most of the time. Recommendations After following: Infocom Solutions Powerlinks Co. thorough analysis, the proponents recommend the

First, the company should be able to secure its own domain in order to make sure that the site has a 99.99% uptime. Second, the administrator of the system should be oriented with the flow
27

of the proposed system. This will ensure that the administrator has the proper knowledge with regards to the websites

functionalities.

Lastly, updating the websites content should

be made from time to time to make sure that the website contains the latest information about the companys products and

services. Future Researchers

The proposed system is still a work-in progress and can still be enhanced. Inclusion of online payments and customer review ratings for each product will certainly be good additions to the website in the future.
