Answer all questions from Group A (which is) compulsory, Any Four from Group B and Any Four from Group C. 2. All questions of the particular group should be answered collectively at one place. All parts of a question (a, b, etc.) should be answered at one place. 3. Answer should be brief and to-the-point and be supplemented with neat sketches. 4. Any missing or wrong data may be assumed suitably giving proper justification. 5. Figures on the right-hand side margin indicate full marks. Group-A (All questions are compulsory) Q.1

Attempt all questions (compulsory) and write correct answers in answer-sheet: a) The separation of boundary takes place when the pressure gradient is Negative Positive Zero Constant b) Kinematic similarity between model and prototype is the similarity of Shape Discharge Stream Forces

c) If the stream function is given by =3xy, then the velocity at a point (2,3) will be 7.21 unit 10.82 unit 18 unit 54 unit d) The ratio of maximum velocity and the average velocity in laminar flow through circular pipe is 2 0.5 1.5 0.25 e) Velocity profile in laminar flow is Parabolic Hyperbolic A straight line An ellipse f) Dimensions of shear velocity ( V*) is LT-2 ML2T-2 LT-1 ML-1T-2 g) For Froude model ratio velocity is ( ) ( ) h) Mach Number is the ratio of inertia force to Viscous force Pressure Elastic force Gravity i) Surface tension is due to Viscous force j) Velocity potential function exist for Laminar flow Irrotational flow Rotational flow Turbulent flow

1. Three pipes of length 2. Define the following dimensionless numbers:

(i) Froudes number (ii) Eulers number (iii) Machs number Group-C (Answer any Four)
4 X 5=20

1. Derive and sketch the shear stress and velocity distribution across the section of circular pipe in a viscous fow. 2. A horizontal pipeline 40 m long is connected to a water tank at one end and discharges freely into the atmosphere at the end. For the first 25 m of its length from the tank, the pipe is 150 mm diameter and its diameter suddenly enlarges to 300 mm. The height of water level in the tank is 8 m above the centre of the pipe. Consider all losses of head, determine the rate of flow. Take friction coefficient = 0.01 for both sections of pipe. 3.
