MSC POOL Concept

Issue Time2011-06-21 14:30:06 MSC POOL is a MSC pool, in which the coverage of MSC is the same. This also implies that the MSC in the pool is connected with all BSCRNC. One pool can contain 32 MSC at most. The call distribution of MSC in the pool is determined by their capacity. The BSC will define the proportion of call in MSC. When subscribers roam the service zone of MSC POOL, it will select one MSC in the MSC POOL according to the call distribution proportion. When subscribers move from one location in the POOL to another location, the Mobile station will inform the MSC label to the new BSCRNC. Therefore, BSCRNC will upgrade the location and request to be routed to the same MSC. That is to say, once the subscriber chooses the MSC in the POOL, its roaming in the service zone will be always recorded in the chosen MSC until it is removed out of the service zone in MSC POOL. When subscriber moves out of POOL, the target MSC could still request the original registered MSC of the previous subscriber for the relevant information to reduce the interaction with HLR. The Prerequisite for MSC POOL All the MSC in MSC POOL have logical connection with BSC. All the MSC in MSC POOL should activate TMSI functions and pre-determine the NRI value. TMSI is one temporary 4-byte identification code, which is assigned by MSC to the mobile terminal by MSC in the registration. When the mobile terminal communicates with MSC, TMSI is utilized to replace IMSI to prevent IMSIs transmission in the air. In MSC POOL, the concept of TMSI does not change but the structure has changed. See Figure 2. Advantages of MSC POOL Reduce the Network Element Load When subscribers roam in the MSC POOL service zone, they need not upgrade normal location, thus reducing the load of BSCRNC, MSC and HLR. When subscribers roam in the MSC POOL service zone, they need not have the MSC switch, thus reducing the MSC load and the call suspension due to switch. It is estimated that the load can be reduced by 6%~10. MSC Load Balance BSCRNC set the MSC registered subscribers proportion according to MSC treatment capacity. When subscribers roam the service zone of MSC POOL and register for one MSC, they can be always registered in this MSC if they possess the TMSI label issued by MSC. Therefore, even if the subscriber moves from downtown area to suburb from the morning to the evening, in the congested time, the calls can still distribute balancedly in the MSC in the POOL, thus utilizing all the MSCs to largest extent. Agility

Because all the MSCs in the MSC POOL have the same coverage areas, it is easy to add or delete MSC with little call interference. MSC Network Element Incident Resolution For traditional network, when one MSC dawdles away, network is not able to offer service to subscribers only if they move to another MSC-covered service zone. In MSC POOL structure, when one MSC dawdles away, subscribers dial the number, send text messages or change the location, they can register into other MSC in the POOL to have normal calls. If one subscriber always does not have the above activities, after one cycle of location upgrading, he or she can also register into other MSC in the POOL to have the normal calls.
