Role Profile Role Title: Department and Division: Lead Stress Engineer Engineering Reports To: (Role Title)

Location: Head of Stress Cowes, IoW

Role Purpose (This is a brief explanation, which summarises the overall objective of the role) To fully support projects, leading stress analysis tasks to cover all identified project requirements. Key Accountabilities (These are the key deliverables and outcomes of the role) To oversee that all elements of stress analysis and activity are being satisfactorily addressed. Develop technical solutions which are compliant with all relevant requirements, within agreed programs and timescales. To assist Chief Engineers in driving Stress projects to completion on time and to budget To ensure design compliance by appropriate analysis in accordance with GKN internal policies, procedures and work instructions.

To work in co-operation with other functional areas of the company to achieve local and overall business objectives. To identify and implement Lean initiatives and to encourage a culture of Continuous Improvement within the Stress Office. To supplement the capabilities and capacity of the Stress Office by identifying work packages suitable for off-load to external suppliers. Manage allocation of workload to a small team of engineers and/or off-load to external suppliers as required.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in relevant degree discipline. Experience of working with aircraft structures gained within the aerospace industry. Knowledge and experience of working with Airbus and or composites would be highly advantageous but not essential. Good working knowledge of classical stress engineering methods across product lifecycles from concept through to production. Experience of supervising and leading small team, ideally across multi sites and incorporating outsource suppliers to deliver to agreed targets on time and in full.

Person Specification Ability to work effectively within a team and also guide and supervise a team where necessary. Able to proactively manage own workload and deliver within agreed timeframes Resolve technical problems independently. Communicate clearly and effectively at all levels of management. Able to guide and check finite element modelling methodology, interpret results and generally design assure the model output. Have good working knowledge of available bespoke software techniques.
