SUBMITTALS

General: Submit the following according to Conditions of Contract and Division 16 Specification Sections. A. Product data including manufacturer's detailed technical product data and installation instructions for each type of wiring devices & methods of installation Include instructions for handling, storage, installation, dimensions of individual components, profiles, finishing, protection, and maintenance. Samples consisting of sets of range samples for each type of the following : 1. 2. Include finish samples of wiring devices . Include unfinished samples of wiring devices representing site finish. material and finished samples

Accessories: Include samples of each type of required accessory item .

Shop drawings showing layout and types of wiring devices, including plans, elevations, sections, details of anchorage and attachments to other units of work, and conditions requiring features or other accessories.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.

Installer Qualifications: Engage an experienced installer who has specialized in installing types of wiring devices similar to those required for this project. Source Quality Control: Obtain wiring devices of each type from a single manufacturer or source to ensure a match of quality, color, pattern, and manufacturing.

DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING Protect wiring devices samples from exposure to moisture in shipment, storage, and handling. Deliver in unopened cartons or bundles and store in a dry place with adequate air circulation. Do not deliver material to building until concrete, plaster, masonry, ceramic tile, and other wet work is complete and cured to a condition of equilibrium and temperature and humidity are maintained at or near occupancy levels.

PROJECT CONDITIONS

A.

Moisture Content: At time of delivery, average moisture content to be 6 to 9 percent, with a maximum of 12 percent for any one piece and not more than 5 percent outside of given average range. Conditioning: Do not install wiring devices until spaces are enclosed and at approximate humidity condition planned for occupancy.

WARRANTY

A.

Warranty: Submit a written warranty executed by manufacturer, installer, and contractor, agreeing to repair or replace wiring devices that fails in materials or workmanship within the specified warranty period. Failures include, but are not limited to: 1. 2. 3. Buckling, warping, squeaking, and loosening. Excessive open joints or cracks. Deterioration of finishes beyond normal wear.

Warranty Period: 3 years from date of substantial completion. The warranty shall not deprive the owner of other rights the owner may have under other provisions of the contract documents and will be in addition to and run concurrent with other warranties made by the contractor under requirements of the contract documents.

EXTRA MATERIAL

A.

Deliver extra material to owner, before installation begins, furnish not less than 1.0 percent of the quantity of each type of wiring devices installed on the project, packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels clearly describing contents.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1

MANUFACTURERS

A.

Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements , and as indicated by the engineer, provide samples to be approved by the engineer . One manufacturer should be used for conduit system i .e . Conduit , pull junction and outlet boxes should be from the same manufacturer .

B.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION

A.

Examine substrates where wiring devices will be installed and conditions under which work will be performed. Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in manner acceptable to Installer.

3.2

PREPARATION

A.

Where direct application of wiring devices to concrete substrate is indicated, test for dryness before proceeding with installation. Check liveliness of concrete substrate to ensure not more than 6-mm deviation in any direction when checked with a 3-m straight edge. Grind down high spots or fill in low spots to correct improper conditions. Apply moisture barrier over concrete substrate or subfloor as recommended by engineer.

General: Comply with switches manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. Pattern: Comply with pattern or direction of pattern for installing of wiring devices as indicated in drawings or, if not indicated, as directed by engineer.

Location and purpose. a. Junction , pull and / or splice boxes will be located where required to facilitate pulling & splicing of wires & cables , and will be as inconspicuous as could be . Boxes of sufficient capacity will be provided at every junction of the conduit system & as required by the regulations or shown on the drawings , a maximum spacing of 15m between any two outlets / boxes may be allowed .

Metallic boxes a. Boxes & covers for either concealed or embedded indoor installations used with steel or galvanized cast iron with threaded hubs . ( Cast metal alloy boxes other than cast iron will be subject to approval ) . Boxes & covers exposed & surface mounted will be galvanized cast iron with threaded hubs . Boxes & covers for outdoor surface or flush mounting will be galvanized cast iron with threaded hubs & provided with PVC gaskets to ensure water-tightness . Screws & fittings will be of non-ferrous corrosion resistant metals . Explosion proof boxes & fittings for explosion proof areas will be used.

Concrete boxes a. Boxes for installation in concrete slabs will be octagonal minimum ( 100 mm. ) with a removable backplate & ( 8 mm. ) fixture stud . Pull & splice boxes 1. Boxes will be constructed of galvanized sheet steel of minimum thickness 1.5mm reinforced where required & provided with removable covers secured with brass machine screws . Boxes will have a prime coat of zinc chromate paint & a finish coat of gray enamel For outdoor installations threaded hub-type cast boxes will be used .

Boxes & covers used with plastic conduit systems will be moulded plastic provided with means for securely terminating the conduits . Outdoor boxes will be of the outdoor type provided with gaskets to ensure water-tightness .

Outlet boxes a. b. Outlet boxes type to be according to the project drawings. Outlet boxes will be of standard shape & dimension for their applications & purposes as used with switches , socket outlets and lighting fixtures of the various types & mounting methods . Outlet boxes fixed inside false ceiling will be provided with mounting brackets for rigid fixing to structural members or other means of support Outlet boxes used connection of flexible cord to electrical equipment & lighting fixtures will be provided with securely fixed insulated terminal blocks or connectors . Outlet boxes will be of size and design to suit the devices to be fitted there such as lighting , sockets , ....etc outlets of the system concerned.

Junction , pull , splice & terminal boxes : a. Junction & splice boxes will be provided as required to distribute from main cables to the various outlets . All boxes will be fitted with brass earthing terminals and brass inserts . Junction box will be complete with a terminal block suitable for connecting up to 10 mm2 copper conductor ( phase , neutral & earth ) & all insulated moulded white cover plate .

Fused Spur Box : a. Fused spur box will be flush type , unswitched & suitable for 220 V , single phase , 50 HZ supply . Spur box will have a fuse base with carrier & 13 A fuse link complying to BS 1362 . During replacement of a fuse no line metal will be touchable . Spur box will be provided with earth terminal .The terminal will accommodate three core 4 mm2 cables .

The front plate of spur box will be brass finished matte & will have outlet for flexible cable or according to Architect .

CEILING ROSE a. Ceiling rose will be of three or four plate type as required . Terminals will be clearly marked to indicate the phase ( or line ) neutral & earth conductors . The base fixing screw hole slotted to accept a variation in fixing . Screw centers are suitable for mounting over small circular conduit boxes .

PLATES a. Plates for indoor use 1. Plates will be of square or rectangular shape to cover adequately corresponding outlet boxes & be purposely designed to fit in the electrical devices . Samples will be submitted for approval of Engineer. Fixing screws if needed , will be chromium plated & polished steel screws heads will match the plates . Plates will be designed to match associated devices . Combination plates will be provided for ground outlets and devices as detailed on the Architectural or Electrical Drawings . Plates for cord extensions will be provided with cord grip bushings ( screwed-in compression type ) of the same material and finished as the plates .

Plates For Outdoor Use : 1. Plate & cover will be suitable for outdoor use , & made of plastic Screws will be of non-ferrous material . spring will be stainless steel . Special sealing rubber gasket will ensure water-tightness of cover & of the plate & box assembly .

Combination Plates : 1. Where shown on the drawings , duplex socket outlets and telephone outlets will be mounted under a common plate mounting straps will be used for mounting devices & allow removal of the front plate for repair & maintenance without disturbing the circuits.

Power Connection To Air Condition , Boilers Pumps ....etc . Power feeding points will be executed according to the conditions and specifications herein & in accordance with the drawings after receiving acceptance of the engineer on the contractors shop drawing .

Remote Controls : Remote control wiring for different equipment as shown on the drawings and the control function sheets .

Connection & Disconnecting Means : a. Most of the power & remote control cables feeding equipments mentioned in items 10 & 11 be terminated in special splash drip proof connecting &disconnecting station .

b. The connection between the station & the equipment fed-by , will be done by either flexible PROTODUR cables or wires in steel flexible conduit covered by PVC& fixed to the station & the equipment by special copper fitting & bushes . c. The connections between the incoming cables & the flexible connection is carried by fixing both cables to a 1 KV isolated terminal strip adequate for wires & conductors cross-sections .

d. The a/m station is a metal clad splash & drip proof IP 65 fixed to the walls or free standing beside the equipment and fixed to steel sections frame work stand. Inside the station fixed terminal strips as described receive the incoming and outgoing cables or flexible conduits . e. Fixed to the cover of the station lock-out start pace switch with a hole in the handle to lock it off for security in case of maintenance .

13. Cables Fixing In Basement , Mechanical Areas & Cable Shafts And Electro -Mechanical Tunnel : a. The contractor will provide & install cable trays & secondary cable trays & trunking in the basement level to accommodate the cables running as called-for in the drawings and as shown in the drawings & specifications and when the number of cables is more than 5 cables .

b. The power & remote control cables ( 220 & 380 V ) will be fixed by cable supports in the power cable shaft every floor height to avoid mechanical stress on cables . They will be arranged in such way it will be easy to replace any cable in the future . The distance between two cables must not be less than two times their diameters .

In case the number of cables is less than 5 cables for power and remote control cables use cable clips ( single , double multi- clip ... ) & fix them to steel channels or normal steel sections . Trunking too may be used .

d . For feeding different A/C mechanical units .... etc . suspend the cables from the ceiling & drop to the connecting box vertically using clips & channels . 14. Remote Control Cables : When cables are used instead of wires & conduits for remote control , functions , monitoring .... etc . the color code asked - for before will not apply . Numbers printed during manufacturing the cable will be accepted under the following conditions : 1. 2. 3. Each conductor will have the printed number on its insulation all along the cable & not at the ends . The details of wiring & numbers used will be recorded by the contractor on the record drawings . PVC control cables 1 KV insulation of copper conductor insulated with PVC & printed on each cable conductor , all along the conductor during manufacturing numbers for identification The insulated conductors are covered by tape & PVC outer sheath . The connection of the control cables between the connecting box with lock-out switch as specified herein - before & the motor control or air-handling unit .... etc . can be carried by cable as above but with finely stranded copper conductors .

All PVC boxes to be manufactured by Gewiss , Legrang or approved equal . All metal boxes to be as manufactured by M.K. or approved equal .

Local manufacturer can be accepted on condition contractor to proof equality & same standard.
