ISA100 Role and Yokogawa Products

Role Field Devices Input/ Output Router Backbone Router Role Definition and Responsibilities Sources or consumes data. Does not route. Routes messages for other devices operating in the wireless subnet. Routes data via the backbone. Mitigates between devices operating in the wireless subnet and devices operating on the backbone. The brains of the network. Manages all network devices through policy-controlled configurations based on collection of performance parameters reported. Enables, controls and supervises the secure operation of all devices present in the network. Provides an application interface between the wireless network and the plant network.

Star Topology

In a star network each device communicates directly with the master device or base-radio Latency within such networks is low
Communication without delay

However there are no redundant communication paths

Duocasting will address this adding redundancy

Power consumption is low

DUOCAST

Mesh Topology

In a mesh network devices can communicate with each other and the gateway
Paths are built depending upon signal strength

Latency depends where you are in the mesh

Can be high at the mesh edges

However, redundant data paths are formed

Multiple routes exist to reach the gateway

Power consumption is higher

Measure, Transmit & route for other devices
