Introduction
1.1. Purpose of Document
This manual instructs the technician in the installation of the I-Gate 4000 PRO system. Included are descriptions of necessary tools, site preparation, gateway cabinet installation, insertion of cards and cables, and procedures that bring the IGate 4000 PRO to full operational status. The chapters in the manual are presented in the order in which the procedures should be carried out. The instructions can also be used by the customer on-site for re-installation or troubleshooting.
1.2. General
The I-Gate 4000 PRO is among the industry's first real carrier-class IP Telephony platforms with carrier-class performance. It is designed to provide all the following carrier-class features: openness, reliability, scalability, capacity, availability and fixed line voice quality. The I-Gate 4000 PRO Media Gateway is divided into two sections: the Main Hardware section on the lower shelf containing the Main cards, and the upper shelf section containing the I/O cards. The I-Gate 4000 PRO Media Gateway is encased in a chassis that complies with ETSI 300 119 requirements. I-Gate 4000 PRO features front-loading cards and I/O connections for convenient access to both I/O connections and the cards. There are no connections at the rear of the terminal. Each Interface card has a protective panel for physical protection and as a guard against electromagnetic interference (EMI). Similarly, the Main Hardware section has a door that acts both as a physical protection and also against electromagnetic interference (EMI). This feature makes the insertion of blank cards unnecessary.

Certain tools and test equipment commonly used on electromechanical systems should never be used on the I-Gate 4000 PRO. These include: battery buzzers, AC wire-wrap guns, electric soldering irons and guns, test picks and test lamps. The following precautions must be observed: ! The I-Gate 4000 PRO uses various Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) devices. All personal tools, test equipment and metal objects that come into contact with MOS devices must be electrically grounded. Any static or foreign voltage that is introduced into these devices may damage them permanently. ! Do not use tools or test equipment, such as test lamps and picks that draw an appreciable amount of current when attached to the system. ! Do not use tools or test equipment that could introduce foreign voltages into the system. For example, a battery-powered buzzer operates on only six or nine volts, but the voltage introduced across the buzzer coil when the magnetic field collapses can reach a momentary peak in excess of 100V, which can destroy solid-state devices. ! Use only hand-powered or battery-powered wire-wrap guns in equipment cabinets. AC-powered wire-wrap guns and lead verification equipment can be used at the distribution frames only if all cabling has been disconnected from the cabinet. ! When handling I-Gate 4000 PRO cards, always use an anti-static strap.

Before unpacking elements of the I-Gate 4000 PRO, you need to select a suitable location for them. Select a site which supports the physical characteristics of the gateways, and which conforms to the environmental and power characteristics of all the elements. The I-Gate 4000 PRO gateway is designed to be mounted in a cabinet or other rigid framework that is fixed to the building. A 2.2 meter or 2.6 meter ETSI cabinet or a 19in./47U high cabinet can accommodate up to three gateways, in addition to air buffers and a Power Distribution Unit (PDU). The gateway can also be installed in other suitable cabinets, such as NEBS cabinets. Some cabinets contain a network external switch. Refer to Section 3.5, "Cooling Requirements", to arrange for adequate cooling of the system within the cabinet.
Note: If the customer requires that the heat dissipation requirements will be as stipulated in GR-63-CORE Objective 4-14, then only two terminals may be installed per cabinet.

Use the holes that allow the appropriate clearance for your installation. For example, if you are mounting the I-Gate 4000 PRO into a cabinet with a closing door, choose the set of holes closest to the front of the I-Gate 4000 PRO chassis. This will allow the I-Gate 4000 PRO to be mounted further behind the cabinet door. 2. Use three of the included attachment screws to attach one of the mounting brackets to the side of the chassis. It does not matter which side is attached first. Do not tighten the screws until all three screws are in place. This will allow you to adjust the mounting bracket if there are any alignment problems. 3. Before attaching the second bracket to the chassis, confirm that you are using the set of holes that corresponds to those on the other side of the chassis. 4. Use the remaining three attachment screws to attach the second mounting bracket to the side of the I-Gate 4000 PRO.

This chapter describes the procedures required to initialize the I-Gate 4000 PRO system. These steps bring the I-Gate 4000 PRO to fully operational status and establish its communication with the VerazView-xMS station. Initialization consists of the procedures described sequentially in the following sections: 1. Section 10.1 "Configuring IP address on TPSM card", page 10-2. 2. Section 10.2 "Configuring default router IP address on TPSM card", page 10-5. 3. Section 10.3 "Downloading the software version", page 10-6. Steps 1 and 2 are performed using the onsite monitor PC. Once you have performed steps 1 and 2, you can disconnect the terminal from the onsite monitor PC. Step 3 is performed from the VerazView-xMS station.

9. Type: IpChange "#.#.#.#:h1h2h3h4h5h6h7h8" and press < Enter > . In this command line, the first parameter ("#.#.#.#") is the new IP address. Substitute the specific numbers of your new IP address for the # signs, where # can be any number from 1 to 255. Do not add any leading 0's; for example, in place of one (#) sign, type "13" and not "013". The second parameter in this command line ("h1h2h3h4h5h6h7h8") is the network subnet mask. The subnet mask must be in hexadecimal format. Substitute the specific numbers of your new network subnet mask for the h1h2 symbols, where h1h2 can be any hexadecimal number from 00 to ff, and the entire network mask is a series of four pairs (h1h2) of hexadecimal digits. For example, ff = 255. Thus, for this step, your final command line might appear as follows: IpChange "192.168.49.50:ffffff00" where: ffffff00 represents the address 255.255.255.0 After you press <Enter>, the application displays a feedback line signifying that your input has been correctly formatted and accepted: value = 0 =0x0 10. Reboot the terminal (this may take a few seconds). 11. Type ifShow; a list of three groups of parameters is displayed. Note the following in the third group of parameters:
! !
The line internet address shows the new IP address that you entered in step 8. The line netmask shows the network subnet mask that you entered in step 8.

4. Ensure that a straight-network cable is connected from the TPSI card to the Ethernet Switch. 5. To make sure that you are communicating with the I-Gate 4000 PRO, you may exercise the ping command. From the Windows Start menu, select Run and type: ping #.#.#.#, where the series of # signs represent the terminal IP address. A DOS window pops up. If the connection is functioning normally, this window presents the time it takes the I-Gate 4000 PRO to reply. In case the connection is absent, you will receive a message: "Request time-out". Once you have completed the above steps, you can disconnect the terminal from the onsite monitor PC.

11.1. Fan Tray Units
11
The cooling system of an I-Gate 4000 PRO System, consists of two fan trays, fitted side by side on the fan tray shelf and an air baffle located underneath the fan trays (see Figure 11-1). A new I-Gate 4000 PRO system arrives from the factory with the cooling system already in place, you do not need to install it separately. Later, however, you can remove the fan tray to replace individual fans, or to replace the entire fan tray as needed.
Figure 11-1: Two Fan Tray Units installed in the IG4K PRO
The Fan Tray Shelf (see Figure 11-2) is located at the bottom of each I-Gate 4000 PRO chassis. It contains two trays, each with four fans. If a fan fails, any three fans on each tray unit can compensate by increasing the speed to Turbo and still supply the system's cooling requirements. If a fan fails an alarm is generated and the specific fan tray should be replaced (see Table 11-1).

Two stages are required in testing the system. They are the Field Acceptance Tests and Commissioning Procedure Tests. This Chapter describes the basic Field Acceptance Test Procedures for the I-Gate 4000 PRO. The Commissioning Procedure Tests are described in Chapter 13. The purpose of the field acceptance tests is to verify that the I-Gate 4000 PRO terminal and the VerazView-xMS management station are in working order after installation and that all local wiring is correct and intact. These tests check the functioning of one end of the system.
Notes: 1. The appropriate Field Acceptance procedure depends on which Veraz equipment is used in the Customer's network. 2. In order to test the DS3 configuration, a test-set consisting of E1/DS1 Interface and Main cards is required.

The PRA-1 Frame Analyzer, a third party product, is designed for installing and maintaining transmission and switching equipment that has been connected to a data network. The PRA-1, monitors incoming and outgoing frames simultaneously, and in particular, the information in time slot 16. The optional, integral generator section can be used to test all the error recognition circuits in the system; in-service loopthrough measurements can be performed for this purpose.

Two completely separate and independent receive sections for both forward and backward channels have been provided so that two 2048 kbit/s multiplexed frames can be examined simultaneously. This makes it possible for the PRA-1 to monitor all frame signals and alarm signals. There are two display modes: 1. LEDs display the following: remote alarms in non-frame alignment words and non-multiframe alignment words, code violations, frame errors, CRC errors, multiframe errors and, under certain circumstances, bit errors. Any event is displayed for at least 100 ms. It is also possible to display the octet frame alignment signal, non-frame alignment word, multiframe alignment signal/not multiframe alignment signal, CRC multiframe alignment signal and the 8-bit words from the selected non-signaling channel in real time. 2. All events can be retrieved at any time from an alarm memory. Memory is cleared when a new test interval is started, or whenever the operator requires. The following are also shown: no signal, alarm indication signal, loss of frame sync., CRC multiframe errors, continuous zero signal, and several other events that occur in conjunction with bit error measurements. The microprocessor sorts the alarms that have been recorded according to priority, so giving a very userfriendly display.
D.2. Interfaces
The receiver inputs fulfill CCITT Rec. G.703; with a high tolerance to input jitter. No matter what the received bit pattern might be, the receiver can recover the required timing information from the received signal.

D.3. Signaling
The PRA-1 is designed to record, evaluate and display the signaling time slot 16, evaluate the signaling in each frame, and time measurements between outgoing and incoming signaling words. The user is free to select trigger criteria for starting and stopping measurements. The PRA-1 has a P to evaluate signaling. When time difference deviation or pulse distortion is being measured, various nominal values with independent, adjustable limits can be entered. If the measured parameter is outside the given limits, the PRA-1 indicates the appropriate pulse to the operator and displays the time difference. Signaling can be shown in the following ways: The time between any two states can be shown directly on the PRA-1's display, or a single channel oscilloscope can be connected to the PRA-1 to show 8 signaling bits simultaneously. For a particular setting of the oscilloscope, flicker-free display of pulse trains is possible up to 1000 seconds. Cursors can be displayed on the screen for time difference measurements. No matter what display range is used, a resolution of 2ms can be achieved in this way. The signaling bits can be printed out in the form of a timing diagram with the built-in printer. The whole or part of the pulse diagram can be shown. The resolution is selectable.

The detection of transmission errors can be improved to a great extent if further check bits are used. In the case of extended frames, the CRC-4 check sum of each multiframe is calculated and the result compared with the received CRC bits. Error ratio measurements can be performed on the CRC bits and the CRC frames. Using an option that can be connected to the generator and receiver separately, the CRC words are regenerated in loop-through mode in the generator and injected into the transmitted signal. It is also possible to make delay measurements (loop-back measurements) using the bit error measurement facilities when the generator section is fitted. The PRA-1 calculates the wideband level directly from the code words. Maximal code words, coder offset and signal frequency can also be measured precisely.
D.5. Printer
The integral printer is used to output graphic signaling display, all numerical results, as well as time, date and measurement mode information. The printer has manual and remote control facilities.

Configuration Maps
E.1. General
The Configuration Maps described in this appendix are presented as a general guide.
1. The configuration maps suggested in this appendix apply to a fully populated Terminal. 2. To carry out these tests an additional set of cards (i.e. E1/DS1 Interface card and E1/DS1 Main card) is required. 3. Generally each configuration map is designed to test two DSPK cards. For all cases, the maps should be based on the original hardware configuration that is to be tested. For example, a terminal with 4 DSPK cards requires only two different maps to be used.
Note: Configuration assumes 1.5M (24 timeslots in DS1) on DS3 and 2M (31 timeslots in E1) on the E1 side, if other configurations are used the appropriate timeslot assignments should be performed
