Welcome

October 6 2013

Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today. It is great to have you with us. If you are new to Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much as we can, we want to help you feel at home here. In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card for you to complete. There is also a "Welcome Pack" available for you that, among other things, has a special Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make. All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute
There are some things that are inevitable! One of the great joys of being a father is that you can always beat your kids in whatever game you play. Every now and then you let them win just so they feel good about themselves! But I remember when it happened. I challenged Mark to a running race in the car park near the Lighthouse at Port Adelaide. I knew he could run fast but I didnt realise he could now run that fast. He beat me and I didnt even let him! Thats when it hits you. Hes only going to get faster and Im only going to get slower! This week it happened again. I got my new iPhone 5s and felt pretty hip being up with the latest technology. That is, until I had trouble with iTunes transferring my information from the old phone to the new. I tried everything I knew and finally I had to resort to my last option..I called Madison, my 15 year old grand -daughter! She came and had a look and said, Pa, thats not a problem! Then she proceeded to fix it in about 2 minutes. As she walked off she gave me a suggestion. Perhaps you can return the favour one day Yeh, right! Its all part of the joy of growing older! But there is one thing that we can all keep doing with gusto no matter what age we are. We can keep learning! I saw this during the week..Things I have learned * That being kind is more important than being right. * That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend with whom to act goofy. * That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child, did wonders for me as an adult. * That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes. * That we should be glad God doesnt give us everything we ask for. * That under everyones hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved. * That to ignore the facts does not change the facts. * That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you. * That love, not time, heals all wounds. Im sure you can add to that list. I love the Apostle Peter. Near the end of his life he writes a letter and one of the last things he writes is this. .grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. In short, no matter how young or old you are.keep learning and keep growing in Jesus! God Bless Neil
