I've a very basic question for all the followers of 'Santana Dharma'.

Why should we associate science with Hinduism? I mean what is the need for doing it?

I understand the objective of community to associate and discuss the various scientific aspects of
Hinduism and i have also looked over old but good solid threads explaining various scientific
significances in our religion, but the problem arises when we associate everything in our religion
(Customs, practices, traditions etc ) as science.

Agreed there are many practices which have scientific justification but what is the need to
associate all of the practices with science.

I feel that this association is our Human (mis)interpretation of our tradition since time
immemorial. We don’t hav to prove anything to people who don’t believe or criticize our
traditions. I feel this whole idea of Science in Hinduism is to prove a point to the non believers, it’s
like

'If we give a scientific explanation to our beliefs then we will be on the safer side, we will not be
ridiculed, we will not be laughed at etc etc'.

So we give our own interpretation just to prove a point and nothing else, this scientific association
overrules another important association and that is FAITH. By trying to give scientific
explanations to all our practices we are slowly forgetting or losing faith in our religious practices.

After all ' SCIENCE isn't everything'. The reason we believe and need scientific explanations are
because we have faith in Science. We have Faith in our Parents, faith in our friends, relatives etc.
But when it comes to our religion why are we reluctant to have faith in it? If we have an
unshakable faith we don’t have to search for answers in scientific terms or argue with people to
prove a point ( which they are not going to accept it even if its proved).

I'm once again repeating that I'm not against scientific association with our religion, but I'm
against giving scientific interpretations to all our practices to prove a point which conflict with our
faith.

Here are some of the examples which claim to give scientific explanation to our daily rituals :

1. Doing Namaskar in temple -- Equivalent to exercising our body (I bet we are not going to
temple to exercise)

2. Dhobikaranam in front of Lord Ganesha--- Helps to sharpen our mind (Actually this
Dhobikaranam was done by Lord Vishnu himself in front of Ganesh, that’s why we are doing it)

Many such practices can be cited.

Another important topic--" Eating beef".

First of all this topic isn't supposed to be started in this community at all because there is nothing
to be proved on a scientific basis. There are moral aspects in not eating Beef. We don’t need to
give scientific explanations to everything. Even if we prove the existence if science in it I'm not
sure whether the people who wants us to argue with them are going to accept it. I bet they
wouldn't. Just like we give our own scientific interpretation they will give theirs. It’s never going
to end.

For people who think our religion is outdated, and not for 'Modern' times where (u
think) science is everything, fine don’t believe. We are not pleading with u to practice
our ' Way of Life’. But that doesn't grant you the authority to question or ridicule our
faith. We don’t have to prove everything with Scientific Experiments to assert our faith.

For people who believe and Have faith in our “Santana Dharma", there are many practices which
have valid, solid scientific justifications. Let us explore the unknown and let us not give our own
scientific (mis) Interpretations which may ultimately lead us to question our Faith. We don’t have
to prove a point; we need to have more Faith, more Love for our Everlasting and Evergreen
Dharma.

PS: The views expressed are entirely of my own, I'm not compelling anyone
to accept it but it’s just a request. Even I wanted a scientific explanation to
all our practices but i saw a TV show which was the brainchild of a eminent
Journalist, playwright Mr.CHO Balasubramaniam who brought out the
ignorance in me and made me to have more faith in our Religion and not to
add more science to it or brood over non- believers.
