Voting will be held at the ASOC AGM on Friday 18th October 2013, 12pm-2pm in CLB1. Online Proxy Voting will be accepted from Friday 11th October 2013, 12.01am until Saturday 12th October 2013, 11.59pm.

There are a few noticeable people in the past that has influenced many people in ASOC and it is my desire to be categorized as one of those people who has positively impacted on someone's life.

Previous Volunteering Experience Trivia Night Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement Having continuously participated and contributed to the organisation of ASOCs careers and social events, I can honestly say that the learning opportunities presented to me have been invaluable. Consequently, this has culminated in a desire for me to give back to the actuarial community and allow others to likewise experience these opportunities. As VPI, I will strive to strengthen the relations between ASOC and ARC, whilst forging new bonds with societies from other universities. I also promise to promote stronger cohesion amongst the executive team, to bring innovative events from our society, to you, the humble actuary.

You probably know me as that friendly, bubbly girl who supervises and is always lurking around our events, the girl who monitors the ASOC Facebook pages, or the girl who creates those promotional YouTube videos and some of the colourful ASOC banners. I have been a proactive, passionate member of ASOC over 2012/2013, as well as 2013 Marketing Director. During my time in ASOC, I have developed key relationships and transparency between the executive team, our subcommittee, members, volunteers and ASSOC Macquarie - qualities a successful VPI needs. Previous Volunteering Experience Sports Director (2013) MATH1151 and MATH 1251 Peer Support Leader (2013) Poker Night Assistant Coordinator (2012) Candidate Statement Having been involved with ASOC since my very first year, I have met some amazing people and had an incredible learning experience in an executive role as the Sports Director of 2013. I believe that throughout the year I have demonstrated my dedication towards ASOC and all our members. This passion, along with my leadership experience, organisational skills and professionalism, will allow me to strive as the next Vice President External. I will seek to increase our societys exposure to employers and provide more networking opportunities for our members in order to enrich everyones understanding of our industry.

Treasurer Orlando Deng


Previous Volunteering Experience Trivia Night Coordinator (2013) JASS Ball Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement I have been actively involved with most of ASOCs events and have truly embraced the culture and values which I have dearly enjoyed. My experiences with ASOC include being the Coordinator for the 2013 Trivia Night and Event Assistant for the 2013 JASS Ball. As a treasurer, I will proficiently manage ASOCs finances and ensure funds are effectively directed to the most required areas so that money is used efficiently, ultimately helping the society grow and succeed so that everyone can benefit. Management and analytic skills are paramount to the role which I have been able to develop through my ASOC experiences. Coupled with my well adapted team work and my close attention to detail, I have the competent qualities to manage the finances of ASOC as a treasurer.

Charlie Han
Previous Volunteering Experience Integration Bee Assistant (2013) Marketing Officer (2013) ACTL2001 Peer Support Leader (2013) Peer Mentor (2013) Candidate Statement As a third year actuarial student who has volunteered for ASOC for the past few years, I know that its hard to have a healthy balance between socialising and studying. Hence if elected as treasurer I would promise to make life as an actuarial student slightly easier by properly funding all events such as the ASOC camp and JASS ball so all these social events are made more accessible to you guys. Furthermore, there would also be more Krispy Kreme fundraising events and barbecues to keep your actuarial tummies happy so vote for me and you wont regret it.

Selina Shi
Previous Volunteering Experience Amazing Race Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement Im running for treasurer because I think Im the perfect candidate. During my time as the treasurer, Ill coordinate more fundraising events to fund for more social activities, generating a bigger budget for each event and providing ASOC members with more benefits, such as: bigger and better Jass Ball, and more free activities. Im committed and motivated to do everything in my power to aid other executive members and officers to ensure the society runs smoothly and make ASOC a better society for all.

Kevin Zhang
Previous Volunteering Experience Fundraising Officer (2013) Candidate Statement I have been honoured to work as a fundraising officer over the past year and I have had the opportunity to see how things are run. I believe I have the skills needed to continue the legacy as the next treasurer as I have seen first-hand the responsibilities involved. I have come to consider the people at ASOC like a small family and I will be happy to serve you by bringing more goodies at very low prices! Previous Volunteering Experience Marketing Officer (2013) Trivia Night Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement Hello friends. You may recall me as that Indian guy always first in the line at sausage sizzles. However, my involvement in ASOC goes much past the free food. This year has been jam packed for me, learning a lot about how ASOC functions as a society from positions as a marketing officer and helping organise events such as ASOC trivia night. It would be an honour to help contribute to ASOC more as secretary, ensuring the organisation of all relevant paper work and all the operations of the society are accounted for. Thank you.

Previous Volunteering Experience Pool Competition Coordinator (2013) Poker Night Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement Over the past two years, I have come to appreciate the hard work that goes into creating the society events that promote the wellbeing and sociability of our core. Experiencing firsthand the amount of effort and dedication that goes into organizing such events, coupled with my involvement in other societies, I feel that I can use this knowledge to facilitate stronger communication channels among ASOC members whilst further encouraging more active involvement from all. Promoting ASOC events and volunteering opportunities would be my main priority, and I think this can be achieved easily if elected secretary.

Darlia Lee
Previous Volunteering Experience Careers Officer (2013) Amazing Race Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement I am a highly organised person who can manage my time well. This can be demonstrated through my balance of study, working 20+ hours a week part-time and co-curricular commitments including ASOC, tennis and volunteer work. Further, I have excellent professional communication skills in both the written and verbal fields. I have developed my communication skills in high school, where I was the Debating and Public Speaking committee leader. In 2014, I will be very proactive in organising this society through offering my support to the executive team and the rest of the society. In doing so, I will encourage others to stay interested and involved.

Oliver Li
Previous Volunteering Experience MATH1151 and MATH1251 Peer Support Leader (2013) IT Officer (2013) Candidate Statement I have found ASOC to be a society integral to my university experience. Its events have allowed me to meet many new people while providing an excellent break from studies. I believe that the secretary position requires an organised individual who has had experience volunteering with ASOC and that these are traits that I possess. This year I have assisted with various events such as The Amazing Race, barbeques and The JASS Ball. If you want someone who is willing to do the hard yards and be a team player for this great society, then vote for me.

Aidan Nguyen
Previous Volunteering Experience Poker Night Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement As a second year actuarial student, I have had the opportunity to participate, help out and organise a number of ASOC events. Through my involvement in these events, I have had some really fun experiences and have made some good friends. My decision to run for secretary is therefore stimulated by my motive to give back to ASOC. I believe I have the essential skills to succeed in this position such as time management and organisational skills. I hope to provide both fluency and transparency in the running of ASOC in the year to come.

Xinh Tran
Previous Volunteering Experience Amazing Race Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement Working closely with ASOC has been an exciting and unforgettable experience. I have been actively involved in events such as the Integration Bee, Masterchef, O-Week, Krispy Kreme and Shin Ramyun fundraisers. This year I had the privilege of coordinating an ASOC barbecue and the Amazing Race. Through these experiences I have learnt to appreciate the challenges confronting team work, organisation and effective time management. Marketing Doris Kong


Previous Volunteering Experience Careers Officer (2013) Candidate Statement Marketing is the bridge that join ASOCers and ASOC events. Having already coordinated an ASOC event, I understand the importance of marketing for every event. In addition to the promotional emails, fliers and facebook I will take initiative to find new and more effective ways of marketing to promote the social, sports events throughout the year. I aim to make the marketing portfolio more accessible by integrating it with other portfolios. Not only am I looking forward to helping ASOC members, I am excited about working with my marketing team, motivating them to commit to their roles (so that they will become a successful point of contact for their year) and helping them develop important teamwork/personal skills.

Michael Kyaw
Previous Volunteering Experience Marketing Officer (2013) Candidate Statement Id like to run for the Marketing Executive position of ASOC 2014. Im currently a marketing officer and Ive been actively involved in ASOC since the beginning of this year. Having worked with the current Marketing Team, I believe Ive gained many valuable skills related to the role. Ive gained a good understanding of requirements of the positions and the things I can do to sustain and improve the quality of the work the Marketing team provides. Social Nicholas Lau


Previous Volunteering Experience JASS Ball Assistant Coordinator (2013) Amazing Race Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement If I am elected as the Social Director, I will serve you guys with selfless dedication. My direct involvement in ASOCs various social events has given me the invaluable opportunity to become good friends with a wide range of people and the experience to successfully organise events. If elected, I will dedicate the time and effort to make ASOCs social events Fulfilling, Fun and unForgettable. As the Social Director I will make ASOC about YOU! Nina Ma
Previous Volunteering Experience Marketing Officer (2013) Integration Bee Assistant Coordinator (2013) Sports Officer (2012) Candidate Statement As Social Director, I will strive to improve ASOC events as well as organise more events throughout the year. I have attended all social events this year which have allowed me to gain insight into what has been successful and what could be improved. By being actively involved in ASOC and other societies, I have been able to develop better teamwork, organisational and event management skills which I believe are essential for a Social Director. I understand that there is great responsibility and workload required of ASOC Social Director but I am ready for the challenge.

Sports Timothy Lam


Previous Volunteering Experience Sports Officer (2013) Candidate Statement My name is Timothy Lam and I am competing for 2014 ASOC Sports Director. After the experience of being Sports Officer last year I have become familiar with the operations of ASOC sport events. Additionally, I organised the first ever Social Touch Session in response to the popular demand of members, showing my ability to innovate to comply with members interests. I also believe my interests in a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, rugby and cricket along with my basketball refereeing experience can help diversify and improve the sports portfolio through creating new events and increasing the quality of current events.

Andrew Li
Previous Volunteering Experience Sports Officer (2013) Candidate Statement Personally, I look forward to having fun and meeting new people through this invaluable opportunity to become Sports Director. I will encourage others to have fun through sports. By remaining open-minded and flexible, I plan to develop a suitable schedule with a variety of events for ASOC members. My enthusiasm for sport as a means of social interaction is evident through my hobbies of Taekwondo and Futsal. I have developed relevant skills, in my current term as a Sports Officer, and I have experienced being part of a team with responsibilities ranging from weekend social sport events to inter-university tournaments.

Peer Support Dorothy Cheung


Previous Volunteering Experience ACTL2001 and ACTL2003 Peer Support Leader (2013) Peer Mentor (2012) Candidate Statement Hi, Im Dorothy Cheung and am a candidate for Peer Support Director 2014. With my experience as PASS and Peer Support leader, I believe I will be a great Peer Support Director providing ongoing support for students. I have a good understanding of the academic needs of students and can help by managing Peer Support classes efficiently as well as making more material available. If I am elected as Peer Support Director, I will definitely assist students by running the Peer Support classes proficiently as well as the other support sessions, such as Matlab or VBA workshops.

Jeffrey Lee
Previous Volunteering Experience MATH1151 and MATH1251 Peer Support Leader (2013) Candidate Statement My name is Jeffrey and I had the privilege this year to be a Peer Support Officer. I really enjoyed the experience and responsibility in this role, helping students who are eager to learn and facilitating their academic learning. Taking up the position as Peer Support Director would provide more opportunities to integrate the academic side of things with ASOC, and make Peer Support more accessible and engaging for everyone. This includes finding suitable times to have sessions catered to the students, and organising fun academic events. I look forward to the challenges and responsibilities as a Peer Support Director.

Johnny Li
Previous Volunteering Experience MATH1151 and MATH1251 Peer Support Leader (2012) Candidate Statement My name is Johnny Li and I want to continue taking an active role in the ongoing support of students of the Actuarial Society as a Peer Support Director. Already an active member as a general volunteer and a peer support leader, I feel that my skills acquired from these positions and integrating connections with members of the society will allow me to fulfil the roles required for the position. I can differentiate myself by planning on implementing new methods to organise the peer support sessions and introducing new events. Hence, vote for me for an awesome peer support director.

Publications Celine Ng
Previous Volunteering Experience Publications Officer (2013) Candidate Statement I would be honoured to be your Publications Director for 2014 as I believe I would be able to bring the creative flair in the logical minds of our fellow ASOCers. I love how ASOC is such a tight-knit family and I hope to be able to continue this. I believe that the Publications team plays a vital role in ASOC as we create and distribute our aesthetically pleasing FABS and flyers, a visual way to get our fellow ASOCers involved with the society. Jen Qin
Previous Volunteering Experience Publications Officer (2013) Pool Competition Assistant Coordinator (2013) Candidate Statement Being a passionate and dedicated ASOC member, I enjoyed very much my experiences with ASOC this year. Throughout my time as publications officer, I can say that I LOVE what we are doing helping ASOC to promote events by making beautiful, eyecatching flyers and other publications, and this is why I want to run for the publications director. If elected, not only will I present our current publications at a higher level, I shall be innovative and aim to continually deliver to the satisfaction of both students and the society. IT Duc Huynh
Previous Volunteering Experience Publications Officer (2013) Candidate Statement The ASOC Website has limitless potential to be amazing and I can help achieve that goal. Having previously studied Information Processes and Technology in high school for 3 years, I strongly believe I have the experience to successfully take on the position as IT Director. Although the ASOC website has recently undergone a transformation, it is still, significantly lacking in terms of web graphic design and interface design. It is within this role that I am extremely eager to make my contribution to the ASOC community by taking on the responsibility of revamping the website; to making it incredibly amazing.

Adrian Lin
Previous Volunteering Experience IT Officer (2013) Candidate Statement Hey Everyone. Im Adrian, and in addition to Actuarial Studies, Im also majoring in Computer Science. I love working with technology and have previous experience working with a web development firm. Furthermore, being an IT Officer this year has really helped me become familiar with the website and the system that powers it. I would love the opportunity to continue the sites development, starting with upgrading the software behind it which dates back to 2010! With the necessary technical skills and ability to liaise with other executives, I believe I can deliver a functional and visually pleasing website.

Prem Rajendran
Previous Volunteering Experience IT Officer (2012) Candidate Statement My vision for ASOC in 2014 involves revolutionising our online presence. I will also design and develop a brand new state of the art social media integrated website for ASOC. Here is one I developed for UNSWBSOC at the start of 2013 (http://www.unswbsoc.com). I will also try to implement a new RFID student card scanning system, which will mean no more signing Arc attendance forms, improved event metrics, and online payment gateways for our events. The system is as easy to use as PayPass. You can rest assured that ASOC web systems are in good hands.
