SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY DEAN OF THE GRADUATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Dean of the Graduate College of Education at San Francisco State University. ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY. SF State is a large, comprehensive, urban university located in a vibrant and beautiful city with a rich intellectual and cultural life. For more than 100 years, the University has distinguished itself as an active center of academic scholarship, creative innovation and civic engagement. SF State offers graduate and undergraduate instruction for professional and technical careers as well as a broad liberal arts education. Baccalaureate degrees are offered in 118 academic areas, in addition to masters degrees offered in 93 areas of specialization, an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, and 3 joint doctoral degrees with the University of California. SF State is a culturally and linguistically diverse campus, one of the 23 that make up the California State University (CSU) system. RESPONSIBILITIES. The Dean is the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer of the College, and reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. We seek a person of vision with proven leadership skills. The Dean sets College priorities and policies; develops and manages College budgets; promotes collaboration and cooperation among academic units; and works closely with students, faculty, staff and administrators to foster and sustain an environment of academic excellence through a strong commitment to teaching, research, scholarship, community service, and interdisciplinary endeavors. In addition, the Dean is expected to lead, support and ensure ongoing development of academic and administrative college initiatives; to promote relationships with alumni; and to play a leadership role in the Colleges fundraising and relationshipbuilding with the external community. The Dean should have a commitment to the College and University missions that include diversity and excellence in recruiting and retaining faculty and staff. QUALIFICATIONS. Applicants for this position should 1) have an earned doctorate from an accredited institution, 2) possess an outstanding record of leadership and service to the community, 3) have successful management and administrative experience including managing budgets and personnel, 4) possess a knowledge of the varied disciplines of the College with a breadth of experience in education, 5) have an outstanding record of academic activities including University teaching, research, external funding, and service, and 6) have a commitment to fundraising. In addition, a successful candidate should demonstrate a commitment to multicultural education and service to the urban community, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. COMPENSATION. The salary for this position is competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications. A liberal benefits package is provided and the position is included in the CSU Management Personnel Plan. This position is a designated position in the CSUs Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission. ABOUT THE GRADUATE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION. The College has a student body of 1085 FTES and is one of six colleges within the University. With 85 full and part-time faculty and 24 support staff, the College is primarily a graduate school, offering Masters Degree programs and credential programs in a variety of fields and also one undergraduate degree program and two doctoral degreesan Ed.D. Degree in Educational Leadership and a joint doctorate in Special Education with U.C. Berkeley. The College also actively participates in an extensive and diverse array of community outreach projects, research projects, and collaborative projects funded through the U.S. Department of Education, private foundations, and other funding sources. The College is active in international education. The College is organized into the Departments of Elementary Education, Equity Leadership Studies & Instructional Technologies, Secondary Education, Special Education and the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership doctoral program.
