F is the upward force [N], is the density of the liquid [g/cm3], g is the gravity constant [m/s2], and V is the volume ume of the displaced object [cm3]. Figure 1 Measurement of the fluid density using Mohr Balance Density of the liquid is measured by the immersion method using the Mohr Balance. Measurement is done by using ten scale points in the arm balance where the load is placed to make it balance to the buoyant force as seen in Fig. 1. If the Mohr Balance is in anequilibrium nequilibrium state, as seen in Fig.1, then: 0 And (2)
An object immersed into a liquid will get an upward force. Upward force given by the liquid to an object immersed is called the buoyant force. The amount of force is equal to the volume of the liquid displaced by the object.
With F being the force working to the arm balance and is the moment of force to a point in the arm balance [Nm].

B. Determining the Density of Liquid 1. Prepare a measurement glass filled with glycerin liquid. 2. Repeat steps in experiment A with eight various data. 3. Change the liquid in the glass with lubricant and repeat the same procedure! Note: remember to clean the cylinder with tissue before immersing it to a different solution.
Experiment Procedure
A. Determine the volume of displaced liquid 1. Prepare the balance.Load the weight cylinder at the end of the arm balance. Make the balance in equilibrium condition by adjusting the screw on the base of the platform. Tighten the side screw so the balance does not spin. 2. Equilibrate both of the arm balances by rotating the screw at the end of the balance load. Do not adjust the screw during the experiment! 3. Prepare a measurement glass filled with clean water and immerse the weight cylinder at the end of the arm balance into the measurement glass! The upward force of the liquid will unbalance the arm balance. 4. Adjust the arm balance back into its horizontal position by loading the small weight to a scale point in the arm balance! 5. Record the distance L (arm) from the supporting axis and weigh the weight used! 6. Repeat the steps above to obtain various weights and distance L (8 times)!
