2.1. HAAD mandates that all health care facilities must have Dress Code as per evidence based best practice examples and recognized standards for their employees. 2.2. All employees of Gulf Diagnostic Center Hospital must comply with the Dress Code. 2.3. All employees appearance should convey an image of competence and seriousness of purpose that inspires confidence in patients, visitors, fellow staff members and to the public. 2.4. All employees must be sensitive to the local culture, religion, tradition and values. Common sense and decency should always prevail. 2.5. Employees are obliged to follow Good Practice Guidelines and examples as stated below (based on literature reviews and empirical evidence): 2.5.1. Always wear clear identifiers (uniform and name badge) at work. 2.5.2. Change into a clean uniform at the start of each shift 2.5.3. Change into and out of uniform at work. 2.5.4. Cover uniform completely when traveling to and from work. 2.5.5. Clothing should be clean and in good repair. 2.5.6. Clothing must not be sheer and/or revealing 2.5.7. Change immediately if uniform or clothes become visibly soiled or contaminated. 2.5.8. Wash uniforms at the hottest temperature suitable for the fabric. 2.5.9. Gulf Diagnostic Center Hospital will provide sufficient uniforms for the recommended laundry practice 2.5.10. Surgical scrub clothing is not to be worn outside the procedure/clinical area except in emergencies. Fresh scrub clothing must be put on prior to re-entering the operating room whenever old ones have been worn outside that area. It is not appropriate to wear hospital-issued scrubs outside of the hospital. 2.5.11. Shoes should be appropriate to the work being performed and should be non noise producing in patient areas (recommended soft-soled, closed toe shoes). Shoes must be clean and in good repair. Footwear that violates a safety or infection control regulation is prohibited 2.5.12. Personal hygiene should be maintained. 2.5.13. Keep finger nails short and clean. 2.5.14. Tie long hair back off the collar. 2.5.15. Mustaches/beards and sideburns should be neatly trimmed. 2.5.16. Excessive fragrances or smell of smoke not permitted 2.5.17. The use of jewelry should not be excessive and should not unreasonably draw attention to the wearer. Jewelry that would pose a safety issue to the wearer or others is not permitted. Jewelry worn in the workplace should be minimal. Earrings should be no

longer or wider than one inch. Multiple bangles that make noise should not be worn while caring for patients. Stricter guidelines related to wearing jewelry may be implemented enforced for reasons related to safety, patient care and/or infection control. 2.6. Precautions taken to reduce the risk of cross-infection 2.6.1. When in direct patient contact or when splashing with blood/body fluid is anticipated, the use of disposable plastic aprons should be worn in order to prevent contamination of clothing. 2.6.2. When it is necessary to wash soiled uniforms at home, it is advisable to place them directly into the washing machine and launder them on the hottest cycle that the uniform will tolerate (usually 60oC cotton cycle). Uniforms taken home for washing should not be stored or washed with soiled items of family laundry. 2.7. Health care employees should not do the following poor practices: 2.7.1. Go shopping or undertake similar activities in public, wearing uniform. 2.7.2. Wear uniform sloppily e.g. cardigan on duty, or uniform dress without hosiery. 2.8. Violation of above good practice standards and not abiding by the dress code or will result in appropriate corrective measures, up to and including written notice of disciplinary action. All concerned must comply with this policy. Conflicts with the dress code policy should be referred to Human Resources Department. 3. SCOPE 3.1 This policy are to be complied with by all staff while they are still employed in Gulf Diagnostic Center hospital 4. RESPONSIBILITY 4.1 All Hospital Staff 5. PROCEDURE 5.1 Employee must follow the health care facility Dress Code procedures, and the standards stated in the Policy Statement section in this document.
