I could choose any grade due to my floating status so I chose a few of the ones that I have actually worked

on a bit myself. Grade 5 Tansdisciplinary theme: Where are we in place and time? Title: Migration Central idea: Large groups of people move from place to place for a variety of reasons and this has an impact peoples lives. Key concepts: Perspective Responsibility Causation Inquiry into: Relocations of groups of people through time Reasons behind population migration The impact of the relocation of a large group of people on the people involved Transdisciplinary skills: Thinking , communication LP attribute(s): Communicator, Thinker, Open-minded Attitude: Empathy, Tolerance, Respect What exactly do we want to learn here? Students need to develop an understanding of the concepts identified here. Out of the key concepts (form, function, causation, change, connection, perspective, responsibility reflection): Perspective: What are the perspectives of members of the new and old communities as well as individuals involved in the migration Causation: What are the different reasons that groups of people have migrated? What factors have influenced each groups choice of destination? Responsibility: How can we show empathy, respect and tolerance for people involved in migration? What lines of inquiry will define the scope of inquiry into the central idea? Graphic organizer: to document students own family migration history Novel study: related book and picture book on different world migrations, Through literature students gather information about pushes and pulls that lead to migration Migration Diary: from the points of view of individuals involved in the migration One specific migration to investigate further Library: using the library to learn basic research skills/the research cycle.
