The Nominating Committee is working diligently to bring you an outstanding slate for your vote as our new county officers. Joanne Tolman heads the committee of elected club members to choose our future for us. The names will be announced in the Call to Convention which will be coming out by October 15 th. Be on the lookout for it. And, I know you are aware that the Purple Heart resolution was passed at the National Convention! Again, thank you, Rachel Meyer, and a special thank you to Nancy Hoffman for getting us on that road with her suggestion for this. We have arranged for Mary Baker to present her Citizen Ninja Workshop sometime after the first of the year at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. How we present ourselves and our ideas most effectively is so very important. Watch for news on this as the year progresses.

The Convention Committee is working hard to complete plans for December 14great speakers, entertainment. Some of us will be honoring Sheriff Joe by wearing our cowgirl/boy gear and having other Sheriff Joe mementos, along with many great things for sale. It should be a grand day.
The board continues to work very hard to gain members and voters, report on legislation, record club hours for awards, communicate in the newsletter as well as Facebook etc. Please remember our e-mail policy as election time nears. Our e-mail list and directory, newsletter and website are for organization (SDC, CFRW, NFRW) business.

Delegates : CFRW Pres. Plus 1 for every 25 the magic number being 13. If your membership is 13 more, you go to the next number. The Membership Secretary will give you your numbers in the packet CFRW So. Div the same as CFRW Pres. Plus 1 for every 25
We will not publish promotional materials for candidates if two or more Republicans are running. We will not endorse if there are two or more Republican candidates running. We will, however put out notices about candidate events so our members may attend and get to know candidates. These will appear as e-mails from us. Please consider carefully should you happen to have a directory or an address list and want to let friends know of your feelings about elections, etc. As long as the people are your friends and you know they want to receive e-mails from you, it is, of course, fine to communicate to them, but please do not send e-mails to others who may not be personal friends, whose names you have just gleaned from the list. That would be taking advantage of them and us. You can tell if an e-mail is official business from the county if there is NO FYI on the line. FYI is material that you, as members may wish to read, but did not originate with us and it is not necessarily reflecting an SDC position. Jackie Young and I work to follow these guidelines, (not to say I have a perfect record) You will find that almost all official SDC e-mails to the membership go through Jackie, and are checked by her or me. Our newsletter is also for organization business. Often we receive a very good well -written essay which we will put out separately in an e-mail. Club event announcements will also go out separately in our emails. We dont want to be sending you a newsletter the size of an encyclopedia. Linda Alvarez will be doing a superb job for us as our new editor. Welcome, Linda, to your first newsletter for The County!

ABOUT THE CONVENTION GOP Great Opportunity Party Women Were work horses, not show horses, quote from Rep. Renee Ellmers, N.C. California won big time! NFRW 2013 membership closes in October. Make sure your club s October per capita report reaches the SDCFRW membership secretary by October 1, 2013. Membership awards will be given at the So. Div. CFRW as well as the SDCFRW conventions. Club membership also determines the number of delegates each club can send to convention. After per cap #8 Southern Division reported 23 more members than CFRW shows. That means there are Southern Division clubs with double entries. Check your club s members. If you discover that you have reported anyone more than once, call or email the SDCFRW Membership Secretary. Double-check your clubs per capita report and get it, along with your club s check into the mail.

CALIFORNIAS FUTURE
PART ONE AND TWO BY BARBARA GAGEN
Californias Future is the name of the first comprehensive candidate school and it was created by Ron Nehring. The school is strongly recommended if you are entertaining the idea of being a candidate, interested in helping a candidate, self enrichment or a Republican Woman Federated officer. You have decided to throw your hat in the ring and run for an office. This could be a political candidate or even an RWF member running for an office. Now what do you do? How do you proceed and what mistakes do you avoid. The absolute two cardinal rules are: 1] Do you have anything in your past you do not want revealed? 2] Do you know how many votes you need to win your election? If you answer yes to number one and no to number two, pick your hat up out of the ring and help a candidate instead. You must have a plan and a schedule. You need a campaign staff that will have your interest at heart and you can trust 100%... Do you know how to set this all up? Use the social media all that you can. Do you thoroughly know your district? Do you know how to properly dress? This may not be the way that you think. Do you know the history of the political behavior of your district? How well do you know the constituents? What do you know about your donors, how do you get them to contribute to your campaign? Do you know how to set up your fundraisers? I will not reveal the answers to these questions as this just a sample of what we learned in our first class. I want to keep the articles short and give away enough information to tantalize you The second class in the series of Californias Future candidate school was on Communications. As before I will attempt to keep this short and interesting. Leadership is the ability to articulate a vision and to motivate others in pursuit of that vision . How do you communicate your vision to others in such a manner as to be clearly understood? How does the leader connect with the voters? The leader must have a goal and a plan. The leader stays the course and show they care. People can tell if you are not being honest; always have integrity, sincerity and show you care. If someone has an opposing view point do not challenge but LISTEN. Be open minded to what someone is saying -you may learn something. Make an interesting life story for yourself, have a philosophy, an idea as to what is important or relevant. You should talk about issues that will benefit the people and interest them, develop your message. Use the news media and know how to work with them. There are rules to follow when dealing with the media; the media can be your best friend and your best asset. The media is NOT your enemy. Be timely 1] know the deadlines 2] be responsive get information to reporters when requested 3] be proactive and reactive 4] be on offensive 5] ALWAYS be professional 6] never never lie as they can detect an untruth, you can lose their faith and trust in you ---that is all I am revealing. I will share a tidbit: women should NOT wear a pattern but wear solid colors when out in front of a camera. Dress in a manner in which, if necessary, you can dress down I.e. remove a neck scarf or a necklace, take off a jacket. Remember one rule which will help, always dress one step above your audience.

Thank you for your generous contribution of 60 backpacks to the homeless children who attend the Monarch School. There are now 300 homeless students attending the Monarch School, and there is a waiting list. Thank you for encouraging these students, providing hope, and leaving your footprint on their hearts. At the October 12 meeting, we will be collecting hoodies, sweatshirts and sweaters for the homeless students age 6-18. Many of these students live in a car along with their family, so as the weather turns to fall and winter, they will appreciate the extra warmth. Feel free to contact me with any questions or if I may assist you. Thank you kindly for Caring for America!
