Preliminarytasks Important:Securethevehicleagainstrolling,applyparkingbrakeandsecurewheelswithwheel chocks.Onsomevehicles(Eshift)itisnecessarytoshiftthevehicleoutofParktoreplacethe mechatronic. Somevehiclesrequiretheunderbodypanels,heatshields,exhaustcrossmemberandexhaustsystem toberemovedtogainfullaccesstothetransmission.Removeasnecessary. 2. Drainthetransmissionfluidandremovethetransmissionoilpan. Onapplicationswithsteeloilpanalsoremovetheoilfilter. 3. Unlockanddisconnectthevehicleelectricalconnectorfromthetransmission.

TheMechatronic(electronicvalvebody)locatedwithinthetransmissionisaelectrostaticsensitive device,avoidtouchinganyelectricalpinstopreventESD(electrostaticdischarge)damage.

4. Pullthesealingsleevelockingmechanismtotheunlockedpositionandremovethesealing sleeve. Thelockingtabislocatedonthebottomofthemechatronicbelowthesealingsleeve.

Eshiftapplicationsonly(vehicleswithanEmergencyReleaseCable) Important:Bymovingtheemergencyparkreleaseleverbackwardthetransmissionisnolongerinthe parkposition.Securethevehicleagainstrolling,applyparkingbrakeandsecurewheelswithchocks. Useawiretieormechanicswireand securetheemergencyreleaseleverin aslightbackwardspositionasshown.

6. Mechatronicremoval Releaseandremovethescrewsindicatedinbluetoremovethemechatronic. Note:Therearemechatronicversionswith10or13mountingscrews. Becarefulnottodroporroughhandlethemechatronictopreventexternaldamage.

7. Mechatronicsealadapter Removethemechatronicadapterandreplacethesealswiththenewonesprovided,coatwith transmissionfluid.Reinstallthesealadapterinthetransmissionhousing.

Mechatronicinstallation Wheninstallingthereplacement mechatronicmakesuretheparkcylinderrodonEshiftorthemanual valveonMshiftisproperlyengagedbeforeinstallinganyofthemechatronicmountingbolts. Eshift Mshift

UsehandtoolsDonotusepowertoolsforscrewinstallation. Firstinstallandturnscrew1and4alternatelyuntilseatedtheninstallallotherscrewsuntiltheymake contactwiththemechatronic.Afterallscrewsareinstalled,tightenscrewsinorder1through10or1 through13asshownintheschematicsbelow. Torqueforscrewsis 8Nm0.8Nm.

9. Mechatronicsleeveinstallation Unlockthesealingsleevelockingmechanismofthenewmechatronic.Installthesealingsleevewiththe locatingtab j properlyalignedwiththemechatronic.Aftersleeveisproperlyseatedpushthelocking mechanismtothelockedposition.Installthevehicleconnectorplugandcheckthatthesleeveis properlyseated k gapxshouldbebetween2.5and3.0mm.

Oilpaninstallation Installtheoilpanandattachallscrewsuntiltheyjustmakecontactwiththeoilpan.Afterallscrewsare installed,tightenscrewsinorder1through24asshownintheschematicbelow. Thetighteningtorqueforscrewsonaplasticoilpanis 10Nm1.0Nm. Thetighteningtorqueforscrewsonasteeloilpanis12Nm1.0Nm.

11. Eshiftvehicles,removethetiestraporwirethatheldtheemergencyparkreleaseleverinthe backwardsposition. Adjusttheemergencycableasfollows.

Withtheemergencycablereleasedthe clearanceXindicatedabovemustbe adjustedto1.0to2.0mm.

Thecableshouldnottouchtheleveratany time,eveniftheleverismovedbackandforth. Ifthecabledoescomeincontactthencheck forabentleverorabentcablebracket.

Mechatronicprogramming Ifthemechatronicwasnotpreviouslyprogrammedwithvehiclespecificsoftwarethismustbeperformedat thistime.Operatingvehicleinfailsafemodemaycausetransmissiondamage.Ifonsiteprogrammingtools arenotavailablethenthevehiclemustbetowedtoyourvehiclespecificdealerforprogramming. 13. TransmissionFluid Aftermechatronicinstallationthetransmissionmustberefilledwithtransmissionfluid.Withvehicleonlevel ground,transmissioninparkandenginenotrunningaddtransmissionfluidthroughthefillerpluguntil transmissionfluidoverflows.Installthefillerplugandstarttheengine. Withenginerunningremovethefiller plugandaddtransmissionfluiduntilitoverflowsthroughthefillerhole.Installthefillerplug.Withfootfirmly onthebrakepedalshiftPNRDseveraltimes,pausingineachpositionforafewseconds.Placeshifter backintotheparkposition.Removethefillerplugandwaituntilthetransmissionhasreached40C,a smallstreamoftransmissionfluidshouldoverflowfromthefillerplug.Ifnofluidisvisiblethencorrectfluid levelasneeded,usingZFLifeguardfluid6orOEMapprovedfluid.Installfillerplugandtorqueto35NM. 14. Testdrive Itisrecommendedtoclearthefaultmemoriesbeforedriving.Shouldafailsafeconditionoccuraclean recordofeventswillbeavailablefortroubleshooting. 15. Finalcheck Aftertestdriveallowthetransmissionfluidtocoolto40Crechecktransmissionfluidwithvehiclelevel, transmissioninparkandenginerunningatidlespeed.Correctfluidlevelasneeded,usingZF Lifeguardfluid6orOEMapprovedfluid. Checkforleaksinthemechatronicsleeveandoilpanarea. 16. Mechatroniccorereturninstructions Inserttheoldsealingsleevebackintothemechatronic,pushthelockingtabintoitslockedpositionfor corereturnshipping.AvoidtouchinganyelectricalpinstopreventESD(electrostaticdischarge) damage.

Toreceivefullcreditcoreunitmustbereturnedintheoriginalbox.. Packagingrecommendation: 1.Usetheoriginalshippingboxforthemechatronic return. Placethecardboardinsertupsidedownintothe shippingbox.

2.Addadditionalpackagingmaterialtothebottomof thebox.

3.Placethemechatronicintoaplasticbagtopreventoil leakage,thensetintoshippingbox. Note:Cleanupchargesduetoleakingpackageswillbe deductedfromthecorecredit.. Donotreturntheoilpanoranyofthesealing partsthatcamewiththemechatronic.

4.Addadditionalpackagingmaterialontopofthe mechatronictoprovideasnugfitintheshippingbox. Packagemechatronicassecureaspossible, damagetothemechatronicwillresultin deductionorlossofyourcorecredit.
