Date 2004-10-19 2004-12-20 Revised version 1.00 1.01 Description Initial transmittal. Revision according to reviewers. Add the divided work for on-site engineers and radio network optimization engineers, regional site verification, and HSDPA function test. Redesign the whole document and enhance operability. The SMS service verification involves intelligent network, so it is excluded here. Whether handover involves function or performance is difficult to decide, so it is excluded here. HSDPA throughput involves performance, so it is excluded here. 2006-02-17 3.00 The reselection between 3G and 2G and test of voice services handover between 3G and 2G involves working efficiency, and it is difficult to divide them as a function or performance problem. Therefore they are excluded here. In antenna diversity check, resetting uplink service SIRtarget involves parameters related to RNP and is not recommended. Therefore this part is removed. The RTWP test is unrelated to single site function verification, so it is excluded. The antenna diversity check is not a routine task in single site verification, and it is triggered by test specified by operators. Wang Xiangxiong Author Zhou Xinjie Zhou Xinjie

Chapter 1 Introduction to Single Site Verification

In WCDMA RNO, completing automatic check and test of functions of equipment in each site is necessary and ensures that the basic functions (such as access and call) of each cell and site in the area to be optimized are normal. By single site verification, you can achieve the following goals:

To distinguish the call drop and access problems due to poor coverage from those due to equipment performance. This helps locate and solve problems in later stages, and raise efficiency of network optimization. To familiarize the site location and configuration, the ambient radio environment. This helps engineers in the following optimizations. Parameter setting check in idle mode Services call (AMR/VP/PS) function check in connected mode HSDPA function check CPICH RSCP&Ec/Io Installing problems check (whether the feeder is reversely connected) Chapter 1 introduces the goals and content of single site verification. Chapter 2 provides the basis processes and work division of single site verification. Chapter 3 describes the methods for single site verification in each stage with Nastar4.0 and Huawei U626 test UE. describes the tasks and methods for single site verification of RNO engineers based on Probe1.3. Chapter 5 concludes the whole document.

Single site verification involves the following aspects:

This document includes the following content:

Chapter 2 Basic Processes

2.1 Working Process
Figure 1.1 shows the flow of network optimization. According to the figure, after sites are constructed and tested, the network optimization proceeds to the single site verification stage. Single site verification includes automatic test of equipment functions for cells and in this stage you check whether the equipment of each cell functions normally. When all the cells in the area to be optimized pass single site verification without function problem, the single site verification ends. Consequently, optimization proceeds to RF optimization stage.

2.2 Work Division

The project dimensioning, staff, site distribution, and work division vary. The single site verification is completed by both on-site engineers and RNP engineers. Therefore engineers of different types complete different tasks.

2.2.1 Single Site Verification and Test by On-site Engineers

The on-site engineers must complete the following tasks. 1) 2) Prepare as described in 3.1, "Preparation before test". Before the NodeB is enabled, check by test UEs that the basic functions of each cell are normal. The indexes to be checked includes cell status and service connection in the idle mode and connected mode as below: Idle mode Frequency check Scramble check Coverage check: CPICH_RSCP (within 100 meters from site) > 75 dBm. CPICH_EcIo (within 100 meters from site) > 8 dBm. Connected mode Originating and terminating connection conditions of voice service Originating and terminating connection conditions of VP services PS service connection conditions Output Single Site Verification Checklist of each site

3)

2.2.2 Single Site Verification and Test by RNO Engineers

The RNO engineers complete the following tests of single site verification:

Coverage DT Check HSDPA Access Function Test Antenna Diversity Check (if specified by operators in verification)

Chapter 3 Verifications by On-site Engineers

On-site engineers verifies single sites by test UEs and check the cell status and service connection conditions in the Verification in Idle Mode and Verification in Connected Mode. The following sections take Huawei U626 handset as example for completing single site verification. For handsets of other types, the method for starting testing mode and measurement interface is different, but the following sections can still serve as reference for configuring testing parameters.

3.1 Preparations before Test

3.1.1 Site Status Check
Before site test, list all the cells of one or more NodeBs in the areas to be measured and ensure that the status of the cells to be measured is normal. For each cell to be measured, check by LMT or M2000 the following indexes:

Whether each cell has been set up. Whether cell Data Validity Indicator is Valid. Whether cell BAM Status is Unblocked Whether HSDPA function is properly configured and activated for HSDPA cells. Query cell status by executing DSP CELL MML of RNC LMT. Query cell HSDPA configuration by executing LST CELLHSDPA. Activate cell HSDPA function by executing ACT CELLHADPA.

Query the following indexes by execute the related command:

For each abnormal status, you must analyze for the causes. After troubleshooting, you can verify single sites. The on-site engineers and product support engineers must check that each network element (MSC, SGSN, GGSN, and so on) of core network (CN) has alarms. After single site verification of a cell, the cell must be checked by being connected for CS and PS services for one or two times. If the cell functions normally, you need not to inform CN product support engineers of checking before test.

3.1.2 Configuration Data Collection and Check

Before site test, you must collect data for RNP configuration and other data for RNC database, and check whether the data configured is consistent with the planned data.

I. RNP Configuration Data Collection

The parameters for RNP configuration are obtainable from Radio Parameter Planning Data Table output in network planning state. If related files are inaccessible, quote the parameters from RNP reports or obtain them from local RNP engineers. The following indexes are necessary in RNP configuration data:

NODEBNAME LOCELL ID MAXTXPOWER LAC RAC Scramble PSCRAMBCODE Frequency UARFCNDOWNLINK Others

II. RNC Configuration Data Collection

The method for collecting MML scripts is below: Type the command EXP CFGMML and define the name of the exported file as CFGMML.txt, shown in Figure 1.1:

3.1.3 Testing Point Selection

I. Aim to Select Testing Points
To ensure that the services to be tested are provided by the cell to be measured, you must test cell equipment functions by selecting a test point meeting the following conditions:

Where the signals of target cell are strong Where the signals of other cells are weak

II. Methods for Selecting Testing Points

To ensure that the services to be tested are provided by the cell to be measured, the most ideal method is to disable power amplifiers of other cells except the cell to be measured. In this situation, no requirements are on the testing points. If you cannot disable the power amplifier of other cells, select a testing point near the center of the cell, with line-of-sight distance to the NodeB. In this way, the signals are strong enough and do not fluctuate. For a macro cell, select a testing point 100 meters from NodeB in the direction of major transmission of cell antenna, with line-of-sight distance to NodeB.

3.2.1 Frequency Check

I. Aim
Check whether the frequency number of the cell to be measured is consistent with the planned data.

II. Method
According to the method mentioned in 3.1.3, press the application key to start testing mode of the handset. Then the handset displays testing mode. Query WCDMA-Network Information, and the handset displays the basic information of the serving network, including the uplink and downlink frequency number.

III. Remarks
Check whether the ID of the serving cell (CI) is consistent with the planned one in frequency check. If not, the UE might receive signals from other cells. 1) If the ID of the serving cell is consistent with the planned one, you do as below: Move the UE to a location with stronger signals and wait for two minutes. If the measured CI is inconsistent with the planned one, the UE does not reselect a cell. You must power off the UE, and then power on the UE to ensure that the UE camps on the cell with strongest signals, namely, the primary serving cell. Only when both the frequency and CI are consistent can the test pass. If the ID of the serving cell is inconsistent with the planned one, you do as below: You must lock frequency. For Huawei U626 handset, press the keys * and #, as well as the left navigation key at the same time to start engineering mode. Press Locking Frequency, and then Start Locking Frequency. After typing the frequency point, click OK to complete locking frequency. After frequency locking, you must restart testing mode. If the frequency and CI are consistent, the single site verification test passes.

2)

If you cannot find the serving CI for a long time, possibly the signals of the primary serving cell are transmitted abnormally, and the antenna-feeder are reversely connected. You must adjust them and then restart the test.

3.2.2 Scramble Check

I. Aim
Check whether the scramble configuration is consistent with the planned configuration.

II. Method
Press the application key to start testing mode of the handset. Query WCDMA-Network Information, and the handset displays the basic information of the serving network, including the primary scramble (P-SC) information.

III. Remarks
Based on consistency of CI, check whether the P-SC is consistent with the planned one. If yes, the site passes the test. If no, you must readjust and retest.

3.2.4 CPICH_RSCP/CPICH_EcIo (Near Site) Test

I. Aim
Check whether the CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io received by UE are greater than the threshold. Check whether there are problems, such as abnormal power amplifier, abnormal connection of antenna-feeder, inconsistent of antenna tilt/azimuth from the planned one, and blocking by buildings.

II. Method
In the major transmission direction of antenna, fix a location with line-of-sight distance from the antenna within 100 meters from the NodeB. Power on the test UE and start testing mode by pressing the application key. Query WCDMA-Power/RRC, and the handset displays the information about the received signals, including the received signal strength Rx (CPICH_RSCP) and the received signal-to-interference radio (SIR) (CPICH Ec/Io).

III. Remarks
The threshold of CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io are related to site types (macro cell, micro cell) and loading conditions. You must determine them according to the actual situations.

For macro cells, CPICH RSCP > 70 dBm. For micro cells, CPICH RSCP > 60 dBm. For no-load cells, CPICH Ec/Io > 6 dB. For load-on cells, CPICH Ec/Io > 10 dB.

If the operator also runs a 2G network and the 3G sites and 2G sites share sites, you can compare the coverage of corresponding 2G sites for checking signal coverage problems. If no special note is for a cell, the related CPICHH RSCP > 75 dBm, CPICH Ec/Io > 8 dB. If CPICH RSCP < 75dBm, you must check for the following problems:

Chapter 4 Verifications by RNO Engineers

After on-site engineers complete the basis verifications of equipment functions, the RNO engineers do the following tasks:

Coverage DT Check HSDPA Access Function Test Antenna Diversity Check (if specified by customers)

RNO engineers can verify areas by cluster according to new site distribution.

4.1 Preparations before Test

4.1.1 Cell Status Confirmation
Before checking site, you need to inquiry product support engineers whether alarms exist, whether problems are solved, and whether the cell is in normal status. You must pay attention to intermittent alarms (such as, transmission alarms automatically reset, but this causes network to become unstable and affects services)

4.1.2 Testing Route Selection

Before test, you must select a proper testing route according to site distribution and local environment, with principles as below:

The testing route needs to cover the coverage are of primary serving cell to be measured as possible, as well as all major street around the NodeB to be measured. The testing route involves consideration of local driving habit and avoids waiting for traffic lights during testing.

Figure 1.1 shows the schematic drawing of route for verifying and testing area.

4.1.3 Precautions
Testing cell coverage and HSDPA access function in area verification requires a quick schedule. If the method is improper, the test of an index might terminate due to one or two abnormal cells. For a proper schedule, you must read the details of test, know the content, and avoid wasting time due to abnormalities. You must pay attention to the following aspects:

Connect HSDPA terminal and scanner by a laptop and ensure normal work of testing equipment and testing software. Control the HSDPA terminal to call PS services continuously with testing software and check whether the HSDPA access of the cells to be tested functions normally. Control the scanner to measure RSCP and Ec/Io of CPICH with testing software and check the downlink coverage of the cells to be tested. In test, the car moves at a speed of about 30 kilometers/hour. It slows down or stops by street or road when passing the primary serving cell to be measured or in the following situations: Abnormal HSDPA access function Abnormal testing equipment Poor CPICH RSCP of a cell In case of the previous situations, record the abnormalities and continuous the test. When the test is complete, verify the abnormal cells and solve problems. You must check for the following problems: Abnormal power amplifier Abnormal connection of antenna-feeder Inconsistency of antenna tile/direction angle from planned one Blocking by buildings

4.2 Coverage DT Check

4.2.1 Aim
Check by drive test (DT) the following aspects:

Whether CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io received by scanner is normal (for example, whether the CPICH RSCP and CPICH Ec/Io of a cell is much smaller than that of other cells) Abnormal power amplifier Abnormal connection of antenna-feeder Inconsistency of antenna tile/direction angle from planned one Blocking by buildings

4.2.2 Method
To check coverage by DT, proceed as below: 1) 2) 3) Prepare the NodeB location map. Familiarize the points with poor coverage. Connect the scanner to the laptop computer and test the signals of the target cell according to the selected testing route. You need to cover all major streets around the NodeB as possible. Output area coverage map based on the pilot signals received by scanner. Compare the CPICH RSCP and Ec/Io distribution of each cell. You must pay special attention to the cells with weak RSCP and Ec/Io.

4.2.3 Remarks
While testing, you must pay attention to the distribution of nearby buildings, especially those high buildings which might block signals. While analyzing the data, compare the distribution of CPICH RSCP and Ec/Io of each cell. If the CPICH RSCP and Ec/Io of a cell is much lower than those of other cells, check the cell for the following situations:

Abnormal power amplifier Abnormal connection of antenna-feeder Inconsistency of antenna tile/direction angle from planned one Blocking by buildings

4.3 HSDPA Access Function Test

4.3.1 Aim
Check by test whether the HSDPA access of the cell to be tested functions normally.

4.3.2 Method
To test HSDPA access function, proceed as below:

I. Preparations
Check the downlink rate for defining a subscriber by USIM module, and query HSDPA threshold of downlink BE service by executing LST FRC command on RNC LMT.

Probe 1.3). The HSDPA threshold of downlink BE service is defined as the rate judgment threshold of background/interactive services loaded on HS-DSCH in PS domain. If the maximum downlink rate of background/interactive services in PS domain is greater than the HSDPA threshold, the HS-DSCH is used for loading. Otherwise, DCH is used for loading. You can query the threshold by executing LST FRC on RNC LMT. By information updating of testing window related to HSDPA in testing software, you can judge whether the service maps on HS-DSCH. If it is an R99 service, the HSDPA-related window does not display data or the data is not updated. For example, in the window of WCDMA HSDPA Link Statistics, you can see the testing information as shown in Figure 1.1.

4.4 Antenna Diversity Check

Check antenna diversity as required by operators accordingly.

4.4.1 Aim
Check whether the antenna for receiving diversity signals is reversely connected.

4.4.2 Method
The following paragraphs describe methods for checking antenna receiving diversity.

I. Fixed Maximum Transmit Power of UE

In the cell to be measured, if the UE transmits signals at the fixed maximum power (some UE supports transmitting signals at a fixed power, such as Huawei U626), the RTWP of

the cell to be measured and the neighbor cells increases. When the UE connects to the network in the direction of major lobe in the cell to be measured,

If the diversity receiver antenna is correctly connected, the RTWP of the corresponding cell increases only and the RTWP of neighbor sectors changes less. If the diversity receiver antenna is improperly connected, the RTWP of other sectors also increases.

In this way, you can judge whether the diversity of the receiver antenna is problematic. The following paragraphs are based on Huawei U626 test UE and describe the steps for checking antenna diversity by the method Maximum Transmit Power of UE. 1) 2) Use two U626 handsets to dial each other for VP service. In a cell of the target NodeB, press the keys * and #, as well as the left navigation key to start engineering mode. Select Transmitting at the Maximum Power in the Specified Frequency, type the frequency number to complete setting Transmitting at the Fixed Maximum Power. Start measuring RTWP of each cell of the target NodeB on RNC LMT. Figure 3.1 shows the RTWP without subscribers in antenna diversity check.

3)

Figure 3.1 RTWP without subscribers in antenna diversity check 4) Move the UE around the NodeB and stop in the direction of major lobe of the three sectors. Check the measured RTWP on RNC LMT. Check whether the RTWP of the corresponding sector increases sharply compared with that of other sectors. If yes, the antenna diversity receiver is correct. If no, the antenna diversity receiver might be incorrect and need checking and locating for problems. Assume the UE camps on cell 10111 (Cell ID = 10111), the RTWP measurement result of correct antenna diversity receiver is as shown in Figure 4.1.

Figure 4.1 RTWP measurement result of correct antenna diversity receiver By comparison of Figure 3.1 and Figure 4.1, if the antenna diversity receiver is correct and the UE camps on cell 10111, the RTWP of cell 10111 changes apparently while that of rest two cells changes a little. Assume the UE camps on cell 10111. Figure 4.2 shows the measurement result of incorrect antenna diversity receiver.

Figure 4.2 RTWP measurement result of incorrect antenna diversity receiver By comparison of Figure 4.2 and Figure 3.1, when the antenna diversity receiver is incorrect, the RTWP of both the cell 10111 and 10112 (neighbor) changes apparently. This indicates that the receiver diversity antenna is reversely connected.

II. Checking Antennas by Exchanging Feeders

Connect the Tx/Rx feeder to the Rx ports and the Rx feeder to the Tx/Rx port. In Figure 1.1, part A shows the original connection and part B shows the antenna after exchanging feeders. Compare the CPICH RSCP before and after exchanging feeders. If they are the same, the problem is not about reverse connection of antenna feeders (normally after exchanging feeders the difference of CPICH RSCP before and after exchanging feeders is less than 2 dB).

Figure 1.1 Test by exchanging antenna feeders When you check antenna diversity receiver by exchanging feeder antennas, the antenna connection is as shown in Figure 1.2.

Figure 1.2 Schematic drawing for checking receiver diversity

4.4.3 Remarks
The method for UE to transmit signals at the fixed maximum power is a recommended method of test and operation, but it is restricted from whether the UE supports related functions. To exchange antenna feeders, you must repeatedly adjust the antenna-feeder system. Adjustment requires abundant labor and is difficult to implement, so engineers

must cooperate well with each other in test.

4.5 Solving Problems

If RNO engineers find problems about product function, such as originating or terminating failure, call drop, quality of talk, they must retest to check whether the problem occurs again. In addition, RNO engineers must ask product support engineers to solve problems and tracing the solving of problems until problems are solved and closed. If the problems are about engineering installation, ask on-site engineers to solve them. Meanwhile RNO engineers must trace them until they are solved and closed.

Chapter 5 Conclusion of Single Site Verification

In single site verification stage, engineers check whether equipment functions normally. Single site verification is a basis for the following RF optimization and service optimization. On-site engineers must cooperate well with RNO engineers to ensure quality of projects. On-site engineers complete the verification by test UE in idle mode and connected mode. The content of verification includes:

Frequency check Scramble check LAC/RAC check CPICH RSCP check and CPICH Ec/Io check near NodeB Connection check of AMR/VP/PS services in connected mode

RNO engineers complete the verification based on distribution of new site. The content of verification includes:

DT test HSDPA access functions test Antenna diversity check (if specified by customers)

If all verifications about function are accepted, the single site verification is completed. If any problem about product function is found, engineers must locate it and retest. After single site verification, optimization comes to RF optimization. Compared with WCDMA RNO Single Site Verification Guidance, this version has the following content changed: Add the divided work for on-site engineers and RNO engineers, regional site verification, and HSDPA function test. Redesign the whole document and enhance operateability. On-site engineers and RNO engineers can complete all single site verification tasks according to this document. The SMS service verification involves intelligent network, so it is excluded here. It is also removed from Single Site Verification Checklist Template. Whether handover involves function or performance is difficult to decide, so it is excluded here. It is also removed from this document. HSDPA throughput involves performance, so it is excluded here. This document requires you to verify HSDPA access function. The reselection between 3G and 2G and test of voice services handover between 3G and 2G involves working efficiency, and it is difficult to divide them as a function or

WCDMA RNO Single Site Verification Guide

performance problem. Therefore they are excluded here. It is recommended that engineers verify single sites by special optimization in system function verification stage or parameters optimization stage. In this new version, this part is removed. The requirements on division of responsibilities for single site verification are just raised. This document is a conclusion of engineers' opinions and the operateability of the book is not tested, so it must be tested in on-site engineers. The precondition for this document is as below: Based on Nastar 4.0 and Huawei U626, on-site engineers describe the working methods in each stage. Based on Probe 1.3, RNO engineers describe the testing methods for single site verification. This precondition restricts the document by applicable range. Common users can verify most common single sites according to this document. Inexperienced engineers must be guided by experienced ones if the on-site testing tools change.
