1. Setting up DV Camcorder Support

Make sure the IEEE-1394 (or named FireWire card) interface card is properly installed. (Please refer to your IEEE-1394 interface card manual for details on installation). Connect your DV camcorder to the FireWire card using the IEEE-1394 cable provided along with your DV camcorder. Turn on the power of DV camcorder by switching to either VTR or Camera (depending on the camera model) mode before launching Ulead DVD MovieFactory. Verify if Ulead DVD MovieFactory has detected your DV hardware by clicking Capture Settings and checking if the name of the DV camcorder is listed and selected in the Settings menu. Capture videos in the Capture Video dialog box.

2. Tips and Hints for DV

If you find that many frames were dropped during DV capture, please check if system requirements are met. The hard drive may even need to be defragmented. Some DV camcorders have the power saving function that shuts down the power automatically when the camera is idle for a period of time. Please turn off this function when capturing from your DV camcorder to the computer. If your system supports DMA transfer, enable it (for Windows 98 only). The procedure is as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Open the Control Panel. Double-click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab. From "Disk Drives", select "GENERIC IDE DISK TYPEXX" then click Properties. Click the Settings tab, and then select the DMA control. Click OK.

DV Camcorder video capture: OHCI-compliant IEEE-1394 interface card (FireWire) I/O device. 400 MB hard disk space for program installation 20 GB hard disk space for video capturing and create DVD folder or disc image

Recommended 1024 X 768 and color quality of millions. Windows compatible pointing device

5. Troubleshooting
If you experience difficulty getting started, refer to the Help, manual, or the Important Information for information. In the Capture Video dialog box, if you cannot see your video in the preview window, click Capture Settings and adjust parameters to meet your capture device requirements. To update information for your operation system, it is recommended to refresh disc by clicking Show Disc Details from time to time after burning, erasing, or formatting disc. For some TV tuner cards, if you encounter problems in the preview window (especially for a DVD project), try to adjust the settings to the Preview Mode in Capture Options. In DVD MovieFactory DiskRecorder, when importing DVD-VR files from Import DVD Video, importing image clip(s) from the playlist copies an image file to the working folder (the default folder is C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\3.0\Import_DVD) instead of adding it to the Media Clip list. When doing on-disc editing on a DVD-VR disc that contains a still image, the still image can be played or added to a playlist. But, the image cannot be deleted. If you want to share and play your videos on other machines, make sure you use a common codec such as Cinepak, Indeo, or MPEG. If you use a hardware codec such as MJPEG, you may not be able to view the videos unless the other machine has the same video card installed. If you have problems running Ulead MovieFactory, check if your display adapter driver is up-to-date. In Windows 98 SE or Windows Me, turn on DMA to have better playback performance. Please open DMA setting if you use "Cable select" for the disc burner.

If your computer is running with a low-speed CPU, you may experience serious dropped frames during capture. Thus, the captured video will not be played smoothly. If you want to play your MPEG-2 videos on other machines, make sure you have installed MPEG-2 decoder such as Ulead DVD Player, Power DVD, WinDVD, or any other DVD player programs on them. Otherwise, you may not be able to view the MPEG2 videos. For some Ulead DVD MovieFactory versions that do not come with the Dolby Digital decoder, if you trim a video with a Dolby Digital audio track, the Dolby Digital audio track will be converted to MPEG or LPCM audio based your project settings in Ulead DVD MovieFactory. (The decoder provided by Ulead is Dolby Digital Pack, which is manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories. "Dolby" and the double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories. Confidential unpublished works. Copyright 1992 1997 Dolby Laboratories. All rights reserved.) Depending on the Ulead DVD MovieFactory version you purchase, Ulead Runtime Player may be an optional utility. Note that the Runtime Player included in Ulead DVD MovieFactory may not support Dolby Digital. Check with your vender for more information. When you use the TV tuner feature of your sound card, the TV tuner program may stop responding (hanging). This problem may occur if your processor uses Hyper-Threading Technology. For more information, refer to the support information on the Microsoft Web site. If you encounter the message "Drive Not Ready" after video/audio multiplexing during disc burning, try to create a DVD disc image first, then burn the disc image to your disc. If you have other DVD data/authoring applications installed on your computer, and found problems in completing disc burning, try to close or uninstall other DVD data/authoring applications. On some machines or platforms, when playing video using Ulead DVD Player while DVD MovieFactory is still running for other operation, you might encounter video truncation problem. If this happens, close DVD MovieFactory and then play the video again. If you want to read files from a device that is currently doing formatting or erasing task, sometimes it may take longer to complete the task. It is recommended to do other tasks after formatting or erasing is complete. DVD+XVR, an extension format of DVD+VR, does not have the 30 MB limit on the menu space. A disc created by this DVD+XVR format can still be played on most DVD players, but it may not be edited again on certain set-top home DVD+VR recorders. On a DVD disc, the total file size of the menu and background music cannot exceed 1 GB, which is a limit set by the DVD-Video specification. You can increase the virtual memory on your computer if you need to improve the performance in converting files. To be better compatible with the DVD+VR format, it is recommended that all slideshows without any transition effects have maximum 500 images in total.

At the time of publication, on Windows 2000 (earlier than SP4) or XP, only the first session can be read from a multi-session DVD with more than 4GB data. Please install the latest patches from Microsoft to update your Windows system.

6. About Ulead Data-Add UDF Driver

Please read the following information carefully before use.

Table of Contents
A. System Requirements B. Troubleshooting

A. System requirements
Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP Processor: Intel Pentium III 800-MHz or higher Memory: 256MB RAM (512MB or above is recommended) 3MB hard disk space for program installation 500MB free hard disk space CD/DVD burner Rewritable or blank recordable CD/DVD discs

B. Troubleshooting
Discs must be formatted by Ulead Data-Add UDF driver for further use. Do not install more than one UDF driver in your OS, because some incompatible problems may occur. To avoid possible program conflict, make sure all other recording functions (e.g. you should uncheck the Enable CD recording on this drive option on Windows XP) have been disabled except Data-Add UDF driver. If you have problems running Data-Add UDF file system drive, check if the firmware of drive is up-to-date. Make sure the service pack you are using is the latest version (for example, SP4 of Win 2000, SP1 of Win XP). A disc formatted with the Make a DVD-VR compatible disc option enabled can be directly used for recording on a DVD-VR software program (such as Ulead DVD DiskRecorder) or DVD recorder, without the need for formatting again.

DRT-DM is only available on drives supporting this function. Also, only DVD-RW and CD-RW can be used for disc certification. In the Data-Add tab of the Properties dialog box, enabling the Verify data immediately after writing option will slow down the writing performance considerably.
