Communication and Collaboration differ in the nature of actions involved for both of them and that is one of the major differences between the two.
Collaboration is more creative in nature as it results in generation of new knowledge, newer products, and new opinions.
Communication on the other hand, need not necessarily be creative in nature and it can just me mere simple exchange of the existing information. Secondly, collaboration always requires working jointly- thus, at a minimum it requires the participation of two active members or individuals. In contrast, communication may involve a passive receiver.
Collaboration and communication are different functions. While collaboration may or may not require communication, communication is usually considered a component of collaboration. Additionally, over time, communication can become collaboration.
