Semester: Summer 2006 Course Instructor: Md. Anwar Hossain Contact: 01716369076, 0152346324, E-mail: shamal_103@yahoo.com Course Number: PHY 122, Course Title: Physics II Class Day: Sunday, Tuesday, Class Time: 12:00-13:30, Class Room: 603 Advising Hour: Sunday 13:30-15:00, 16:30-17:00, Tuesday 13:30-15:00, 16:30-17:00 Subject Objectives: This course covers the most relevant aspects of fundamental Physics, with emphasis on the Electricity and Magnetism; Heat and Thermodynamics. The course begins with review on the background and basic concepts of heat and thermodynamics, which is very important for textile engineering. It also covers the aspects of electricity and magnetism, with emphasis on the static electricity, current electricity, magnetization, different magnetic substances etc. Methodology: Lecture will be the main method of teaching. You are expected to come to class prepared, by completing the reading with sufficient attention and completing any homework. You are also expected to participate in the class discussion, by answering questions correctly, making insightful comments, and participating actively on in-class exercises. In addition, you are expected to attend class, by arriving on-time and staying until the end of class. Examinations: Quiz: It is a classroom test. Short/MCQ type questions will be provided to answer. Midterm and Final: Both will administer in class and will consist of short answer items and essay type questions. The best ways to study for the exams are to carefully read the readings, take notes during lectures and to answer the discussion questions at the end of each chapter. You will need a calculator during the examination hours. No make-up exams will be allowed without the prior consent of the course instructor, which will be given only under extreme hardship conditions. Evaluation method: Your grade will be determined on the basis of your performance on class-quizzes, Midterm exam, Final exam and Attendance. Another important part is Physics I Lab. These are weighted as follows: Items Class quizzes Mid term Examination Final Examination Attendance Physics I Lab Total Percentage 20% 20% 30% 05% 25% 100%

Grading Policy: University grading policy will be followed. Absences: You are responsible for all assigned materials including that presented in class. If you are unable to attend class, you may obtain the information presented in class from other students. The course instructor is under NO obligation to repeat or summarize classroom actively for students who DID NOT attend a class without a prior consent of the course instructor. Course Contents: The course will attempt to cover all of the following Topics/ Issues: Probable Lectures 03 Chapter Static Electricity Topics/ Issues included
