Introduction
This document intends to guide Petrophysicists and Data Managers through the first steps in Techlog in order to arrive at a good working, cleaned up project, starting from a logic migrated project. It is not a full tutorial, but a supplement to the existing help files and tutorials.

Logic to Techlog conversion

The script converts a logic project into a set of Microsoft folders that form a Techlog project. It converts wells, curves, tops and relevant header data (including curve comments). Contact Koop Boxem or Guru Sharma or your TA to request conversion. During this conversion, curves are subdivided into datasets in Techlog, based on Sampling frequency and interval.

Installing GID version

Use the EEP IT-request website at http://ep-requestsite.shell.com/index.asp , to request access to the Techlog software. Please choose Application, Other, and ask for the Techlog 2006. Version GID25684. You will receive an e-mail when access is assigned to you. Restart your PC if have not done so already and you should find Techlog 2006.0 or 2006.1 in the "Add GI software" list on your PC for installation by yourself. Look for THSA Techlog. Install the software. The following page will appear and select Get your license settings here.

Restart your PC to make the license assignment effective

Getting Started
Click the techlog Icon to generate the initial Techlog display which should look like the image below. The Techlog window is split into six separate panels referred to as dock windows. If this is not the case, Select View - Dock Windows and make sure all options are selected. Alternatively, select View Restore Default Settings

Techlog Set Up
Folders
First you need to ensure that your folder settings are OK

Open Techlog and select Tools, Options, Folders.

Techlog folder Defined by GID, do not change (contains Techlog / Shell global standard settings) Company folder Needs to be set: \\europe.shell.com\europe\E & P\EP Europe\Projects\APP-Techlog\TECHLOG_LIB. Projects folder Needs to be set. (Country specific GID server?). Same comment as above.
Norway: Assen: Aberdeen: \\ris-u-s008.europe.shell.com\sepno_techlog_data \\ass-na-p002.europe.shell.com\nam_techlog_data \\abe-u-s00301.europe.shell.com\sukep_techlog_data

User folder Defined by GID, do not change.

Although it is handy for the user to have these folders mapped in windows explorer, the path in this case is best entered as a whole (i.e., not by using the mapped drive).

Selecting a Techlog project

Select Project, Open or You may get the following message box:

Select Yes for all This will enter any newly created projects from in you project folder (e.g. from logic migration) into your project list, which is appearing next. Select a project by double click. If the list contains clearly more than you think it should, you can clean it up simply by selecting them all (CNTL-A), and press the . Then close the list and select Project, Open or again - Yes for all again.

Menu Bar
Check if you have the following options in the Menu bar: QC-Field, Quanti and Techcore. If not, Select Project - change properties and make sure in the property box all three modules are set to Yes.

Techlog Project Initial QC Initial Data QC of Techlog project which has been converted from a Logic Project.
1. Check if all wells have been transferred by clicking on datasets at the top of the project browser. At the bottom of the screen the number of wells, datasets and variables are displayed. If all wells have not been converted contact Ap Van der Graaf or Richard Carmalt as the project will probably have to be reconverted. 2. Check if all curves have been transferred correctly. It maybe easier to do this a few wells at a time. Set the project filter to the well or wells in question. Click datasets in well browser, go to property box , input the well name(s) and press enter. The project browser will change colour indicating that a filter is set. Select QC-Field, quick data mining, variables inventory and compare the variable list with logic. You may find it easier to highlight the data and using RMB copy and paste the data to excel. Note you cant just compare variable totals as tops data are counted as variables in Techlog. 3. Check variables have correct variable type. Variables can be continuous, point or blocked data. The conversion script assigns all variables as continuous in the GID version. This can be corrected using the Query Rename tool (QC Field Data Harmonization - Query Rename tool)

4. The conversion script will create multiple datasets named Dataset_1, 2, 3 etc based on sample increment and depth coverage. Bringing the relevan data together into one dataset is required and explained in: Tutorial QC field - Data preparation_v5.doc , Exercise 1. 5. The header data transferred from LOGIC is likely to be sparse. Use Openspirit to transfer header data along with well path data, checkshot and any additional tops from Openworks. (If OW is your corporate store). See: OS workflow2.doc (For Aberdeen users checkshot with the RAMOS postscript only should be transferred) 6. Assign auto colours to wells. Click on the word datasets (Located at top of well list in project browser window), right click anywhere in well browser window select automatic colour definition 7. Assign auto colours to tops. Click the down arrow in the Zonation window. Select required zonation. Right click and select automatic zone colours definition. 8. Create zonation all for all wells in the project. Highlight datasets at top of well browser, RMB and select create a zonation all. 9. Go through the assignment of families and units as per tutorial: Tutorial QC field - Data preparation_v5.doc , Exercises 2 - 4. 10. Check and optimize the Alias system for your project: Tutorial QC field - Data preparation_v5.doc , Exercise 5. 11. Create reference set using Tech data, Reference dataset, manual build. 12. Create a LQC set as per tutorial ??
