Part 1 Paragraph on what I learned I learned a few different things from watching the video on the website. First On the website I learned about exponents and the things and numbers that fall under that category. First I started out with the introduction and then moved on into deeper concepts that involve exponents. Based off of that idea I learned that you can use geometry to describe squaring or cubing a number. Overall I have a much more clear concept about exponents, what they do, and how they function. What is a base? A base indicates the factor being multiplied What is a power? A power tells how many factors in the repeated multiplication pattern What does a base and power (exponent) tell you to do? Multiply the base by itself the amount of times that the exponent What is a power a shortcut to? You can use a power to just right the power instead of writing everything out example 5 to the power of 5 instead of writing 5x5x5x5x5 How could you use geometry to describe squaring or cubing a number? You can use geometry to describe cubing or squaring a number because you can change the exponents and the number of times into individual numbers or squares. Part 2

Start with 2 to the first power. As you increase the exponent, what is operation happening to the base? The base gets multiplied by itself the number of times that the exponent is. Starting with the exponent of 4, as you decrease each exponent, what operation is happening to the base? It starts to divide by 2. Double check your table. Does the pattern work from 2^-4 to 2^4 as the exponent increases each time? Yes Does the pattern work from 2^4 to 2^-4 as the exponent decreases each time? Yes

Part 3 What do you get when you add x and x? 2 (x) What do you get when you subtract x from x? 0 What do you get when you multiply x by x? x^2 What do you get when you divide x by x? x What do you get when you multiply x by x by x? x^3 What about x by x by x by x by x? x^5 What do you get when you multiply x^2 by x? 2x^2 What about when you multiply x^2 by x^3? x^5 What about when you multiply x^4 by x^6? x^10 Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you multiply same bases. Add the exponents and keep the same base. What about when you multiply x^4 by x^2? x^6 What do you get when you divide x^5 by x^3? x^8 What about when you divide x^6 by x? x^2 Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you divide same bases. You remove the exponents and multiply the bases. What do you get when you square x^3? x^6

What do you get when you square x^3? x^6 What do you get when you square x^4? x^8 What do you get when you cube x^2? x^8 What do you get when you raise x^3 to the fourth power? x^12 What do you get when you raise x^2 to the fifth power? x^10 Come up with a rule that explains what happens when you raise a base with an exponent by an exponent. When you raise a base with an exponent by an exponent you multiple the exponent and the power that it is telling you. Example x^2 to the third power= x^5.
