ELDON Fifth ranked WIlton Beaver football team had no problem with Cardinal of Eldon Friday night, winning a 52-0 football game on the road. The Beavers used a businesslike effort after traveling just over two hours to get to the district football game. The victory puts WIltons record at 6-0 overall and 4-0 in class 1A district 6. Cardinal fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in district 6. Wilton will host top-ranked and defending state champ Iowa City Regina (6-0, 3-0) next week at home in a big district and statewide showdown. After playing competitive football in their first two weeks, Cardinal had been outscored 146 to 24 in the three games leading up to their game with the Beavers including a 51-0 drubbing at the hands of Iowa City Regina last week. Wilton got the football first and needed just under two minutes to get the games first points. A Koy Snider 17-yard touchdown catch from Tyler Hetzler gave Wilton the first of four first-quarter touchdowns with 10:05 left in the first quarter. Hetzler was involved in the next three scores, a 36-yard run and touchdown passes to Koy Snider and Kaleb Schmidt to give Wilton a 26-0 lead after one quarter.

Alik Lorenz had another big night with 5 catches for 89 yards and Nick Keimig made some great catches and runs as well. Nathan Paulsen had a 34 yard field goal for our score as he continues to excel as our kicker as he hasdone all year, he said. Wyatt Helmle had a team high 41 rushing yards on 7 carries for the Wildcats. Brandon Dykes chipped in 24 yards on five carries. Three other Durant receivers each had one reception in the football game. Maquoketa Valley had 358 yards of total offense in the football game. Tiger Swimmers Go Two-For-Two

By Jeff McKinney TIPTON/DAVENPORTWhen the season began one of the Tipton Swim Teams goals was to double its dual-meet win total from last year, going from one win to two. That goal now needs to be rewritten as the Tigers won two hard-fought duals just last week, raising their season total to three. Actually, the goal was to win at least two, Head Coach Whitney Gehrs said. So this is awesome. And the girls are really proud of what theyve achieved. The week started with Tipton hosting a strong Fairfield team on Monday that features returning State qualifier Baylee Bowman. And Bowman did all she could with individual wins in the 200 IM and 500 Free while also leading off the winning 200 Medley Relay and anchoring the winning 200 Free Relay. Baylees younger sister, Bryanna, did her share as well, with individual wins in the 100 Free and 100 Breast. Additionally, Fairfields Lauren Ward was third double winner, taking firsts in the 200 Free and 100 Back. Tipton had a pair of individual winners Ellie Siech in the 50 Free and Paige Metzger in the 100 Fly untimately though, it was the Tiger depth, greater team numbers and a total team effort that produced 30 new personal best swims and drew Tipton to a narrow 77-76 lead heading into to nights final event, the 400 Free Relay. First place would be worth eight points and a meet win. And second place will get us second, Tiptons Rebecca Darling said after a brief assessment. Moments later Darling lead off with a personal best split and was followed by Kayla Phelpss season best and Sammy Reynolds personal best efforts. By the time Kara Gravert left the blocks for her anchor leg, and yet another PB, Tipton had built an insurmountable 50-yard lead and cruised to an 85-80 win. It was the Tigers second dual win of the year and it nailed down that win goal. And coming up three days later was a trip to Davenport North for a dual that, on paper, the Tipton coaches figured could be a Tiger win with a tweak to the line up here and there and a lot of good swims. Poolside before the meet, the girls almost had to take a number and stand in line for a chance to tell us we might have entered them in the wrong event, or maybe wed forgotten what they wanted to swim, Gehrs said. Not so. North has a diver, 15th ranked Hannah Guy. Tipton does not have a diver. So North was starting the meet up 6-0. By the start of the 200 Free Relay the Tigers has erased most of that deficit and trailed by a point, 58-57, on the strength of winning five of the meets initial six individual events. Leading the charge was Ellie Siech who won the 200 and 500 Free. She was joined by Rebecca Darling who won the 200 IM, Paige Metzger who won the 50 Free and Kayla Phelps who claimed her first-ever individual varsity win with a first in the 100 Fly. Tiptons 200 Free Relay team of Ellie Siech, Phelps, Mady Siech and Metzger won their event by nine seconds, giving the Tigers a 67-62 lead they would only build on the rest of the night. Moments later Mady Siech became Tiptons final individual winner with a first in the 100 Breast. In addition to the six individual wins, Tipton also swept the meets relays. Kara Gravert, Mady Siech, Ellie Siech and Metzger teamed for a win in the 200 Medley Relay while Darling, Phelps, Gravert and Mady Siech took the 400 Free Relay. In the end, tweaking the line up produced nine wins on the backs of 20 more personal best swims and lead to Tiptons 96-78 win. Were really happy with all the great efforts tonight, Gehrs said, and were looking forward to the rest of the season and what the girls are going to show us from here. The rest of the season starts this Thursday when the Tigers travel to Davenport Central.
