ILGA International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association UN Programme Part-time Internship (unpaid) 10 weeks (Nov

v 13 to Feb 14) possible extension to end of March Deadline for applications: 24 October 2013 This is an exciting internship in the Geneva office of ILGA: the world federation of human rights-based LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex) organizations. The intern will provide assistance to ILGAs United Nations Programme, in particular in preparation for the 18th, 19th and 20th Sessions of the UPR Working Group, and during the 18th Session. The intern will also support representatives of ILGAs members while they are in Geneva attending UN meetings. It is an excellent opportunity for somebody who has an interest in human rights and LGBTI issues and wants to gain experience in working on them in the framework of the United Nations. The internship is for a period of ten working weeks, commencing on 4 November 2013 and ending on 7 February 2014, with time-off over the Christmas break. The candidate should be available to work for an average of 20 hours per week. The exact working hours can be flexible, but the candidate must be available to work during the UPR pre-session (26 to 29 November) and the UPR Working Group (27 January to 7 February). There is a possible extension of the internship, by mutual agreement, to the end of March to cover the 25th Human Rights Council. Main tasks: Assisting ILGAs UN Programme staff in their work at and with the UN. Liaising with ILGA members in preparation for UPR sessions for their countries. Attending the UPR pre-session and UPR Working Group, and other relevant meetings. Carry out organisational and administrative tasks together with other UN Programme staff. Conduct research related to the UN human rights mechanisms and how they can be applied to protect the human rights of LGBTI persons. Main requirements: Knowledge of the UN System, in particular the workings and procedures of the HRC especially the UPR and in particular in relation to LGBTI matters. A relevant Bachelors or Masters degree. Fluent English and conversational French. Other UN languages an asset, especially Spanish. Residing in Geneva or vicinity. Benefits: This is an unpaid internship. However, ILGA offers luncheon vouchers for days worked and will cover local public transport costs. The successful intern will have opportunities to work with representatives of LGBTI organisations from around the world, in particular from countries that are subject to review at the 18th, 19th and 20th Sessions of the UPR.
