Raising steam from a cold condition

When commencing the start- up operation for boilers under condition the following observations must be made; If the boiler was taken off line and inspected or repaired were done tools must be replaced, examine all pipe lines to ensure that work that was done on then were completed and ensuring that all fittings were done and properly fitted. Fit lower manhole cover Check that the blow down valve is clear. Check internal fittings if they are correct. Remove all blanks from the pipe lines are removed and other area that were blocked off. Fill the boiler 1 quarter way using warm water if possible, apply first treatment with feed water through the top manhole; ensuring that air vent is opened. Set 1 fire at lowest rate possible; using smallest burner available, by- passing air heater if fitted. Change furnaces over every twenty minutes. After about an hour start circulation by feed pump and blow down valve connection (if no means of circulation is available continue to apply low fire rate until boiler throughout the furnace). Continue to circulate for 4 hours if there is no method of natural circulation is available to promote the removal small amount of water, rising the temperature of the boiler at a rate of 6-7 degrees c per hour. At the end of this set away all furnaces, but still at the slow rate but at this time close all air vents Nipping up all bolts and all new joints.

Stop circulation and steam pressure can be slowly increased during the 7-8 hours within 100kN/m square. Test the water gauge. The boiler is ready for operation. About 12-hours must be allowed for the completion of this operation if means of circulation is provided.

Raising steam under hot condition

The conditions that must be observed when raising steam under these conditions which indicates low superheat conditions are as follows; For higher steam temperatures it is placed above 2 rows of screen tubes in a position known as interdeck position, and as many rows of generation tubes to produce the required superheated temperature. The quality of steam produced is dependent up the width of the super heater. Superheated temperature with be below 455 degrees c, the final superheated condition is dependent upon the presence of fitted controlled dampers in the gas baffles to regulator the gas flow over the superheater.

Operation to follow after the burner as failed

In the initial condition if the burner fails to start after 10 second after the failure as occurred via the spark or other method, initial igniter safety shut off valves must be closed and failure problem corrected. If air flow is maintained at purge rate then re-purge is not necessary. There must be at least 1 minute lapse before retrial of the re-start process is attempted. The continual re-start process without carrying out inspections and checks is prohibited; each burners must be observed independently and any loss of flame must result in the immediate closure of the shut off valve.
