SUBJECT : Report on the 18 seater engine repairs
DATE : 19TH August, 2013.
Sir,
The 18 seater bus engine developed fault on the 15th August,2013 and it was taken to the school mechanic
( Mr. James ) for assessment. After the assessment it was discovered that the top engine block has cracks
including the crankshaft. In view of these, the mechanic proposed the following options;
a. OPTION 1 (REPAIRS OF THE ENGINE)
1.Purchasing of top engine block ------------------------------------------------------------ # 35,000: 00
2.cutting of engine block ----------------------------------------------------------------------

15,000:00

3.cutting of crankshaft --------------------------------------------------------------------------

4,000:00

4.purchasing of gasket ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2,000:00

5.purchasing of rings ( briston ) ----------------------------------------------------------------- 16.000:00
6.purchasing of bearings ( briston ) ------------------------------------------------------------- 14,000:00
7.purchasing of oil pump kit ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 13,700:00
8.purchasing of chain damper ----------------------------------------------------------------------8,500:00
9.purchasing of valve ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2,500:00
10.purchasing of front and back oil seal---------------------------------------------------------- 1,800:00
11.purchasing of oil filter --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1,000:00
12.purchasing of radiator hose --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1,500:00
13.fuel -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 700:00
14.engine oil ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------4,000.00
14.labour -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 14,000:00
TOTAL
THE MECHANIC IS GIVING 6 MONTHS GUARANTEE.

# 133,700:00

b.OPTION 2 ( PURCHASE OF TOYOTA BELGUIM ENGINE )

1.purchase of grade one TOYOTA Belgium engine ---------------------------------------- 250,000:00
2.labour ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10,000:00
TOTAL

#260,000;00

NOTE :
The block engine will be cut if it has not been cut before but if it has been cut before then it cannot be cut
again and the mechanic says there will be no 6months guarantee.
RECOMMENDATION
The Admin office therefore, recommends option 2 which is the purchase of a Belguim engine with the
following reasons;
1. Since the body of the bus is still good, Belgium engine will be better as It will serve longer
2. It will reduce frequent repairs in the engine.
