1 Look at the picture on the cover. There is something missing from the middle of the picture. What do you think is missing? 2 Read the back cover. What are the names of the people in this story?

B While Reading
3 Show what happens each day to Andy, Clive and Kelly. Look at the beginning of the Time Chart below. Copy the beginning of the chart. Read each chapter. Add the new information to the chart. Your chart will be very long!

Clive He finishes his painting. He sets off with Andy for football practice. Two men give them a box. They find a stolen painting in the box. They go to the police. He drives to the football practice with Clive. He follows the wrong van.

1 Students own answer. A sensible guess would be a picture or a painting (which is the right answer). There is a lightcoloured, clean patch on some wallpaper where something has been hanging on a wall, there is a light above the lightcoloured patch and there is a name The Flower Seller below it. 2 Clive and Andy. 3 Students own answer. Main details needed. (see chart below). 4 Students own answer. The detective wants to know about the theft of The Flower Seller so he can take Kelly and Baker to court and have them sent to prison. He must ask questions which Kelly must answer. eg What is your name? What is your job? What jobs do Sam and Eric do for you? What do you know about The Flower Seller? Who is Baker? Students could explain briefly what happened and also include brief interviews with Clive, Andy, Detective Inspector Waddington and Lord Cleveland. Details needed to show how the painting was found: Clive and Andy being given the painting by accident./Andy being kidnapped by the thieves./The plan to find the thieves Clive making a copy of The Flower Seller, the advert in the newspaper./The meeting between Clive and Kelly at the old steel factory because of the advert. The capture of the thieves and the rescue of Andy at Kellys shop. 6 Students own answer. Reasons for the choice of each actor could be to do with appearance, age and types of role the chosen actor usually plays.
CLIVE He starts to copy The Flower Seller. CLIVE He goes to D.I. Waddington, tells him Andy has disappeared. He goes with D.I. Waddington to see Lord Cleveland. They plan to advertise that they have The Flower Seller. They will give the copy to the thieves and get Andy back.

ANDY

CLIVE/ANDY They go back to police station. The police think theyre involved in theft of painting. Their fingerprints are taken. D.I. Waddington takes them to Lord Clevelands house.

CLIVE He has an idea about how to prove they did not steal the painting.

ANDY His shoe fits into a shoeprint made by the thief. KELLY He gets name of Andy/Clives football team from Eric/Sam. He is going to tell Sam/Eric what to do at football match. Day Two (Fri.)
CLIVE

ANDY He plays football. He is kidnapped by Eric and Sam.

KELLY

End of Day Two Day Three (Sat.) CLIVE He finishes the copy of painting. He is at Lord Clevelands house.

End of Day Three

CLIVE He works on his copy of The Flower Seller all day at Lord Clevelands house.

ANDY

ANDY He is a prisoner in a room at the back of Kellys art shop. ANDY/KELLY Andy wont tell Kelly where painting is. Kelly hits Andy to make him say where the painting is. Andy tells Kelly the painting is on a rubbish dump. Kelly takes Andy to the rubbish dump. They dont find the painting and go back to Kellys shop. Day Four (Sun.)

ANDY He is tied up all night. ANDY/KELLY Kelly makes Sam/Eric untie Andy. Kelly is worried because Andy will not eat or speak. Kelly makes Andy phone Clive.

KELLY

KELLY Baker comes to Kellys shop. Threatens to kill Kelly if Kelly does not give him the painting. End of Day Four

KELLY He becomes wild/ angry because no one answers the phone. End of Day Five

Day Five (Mon.)

CLIVE

CLIVE He waits at police station for the thieves to call the number in the advert about The Flower Seller. CLIVE/ANDY Clives finds Andy and unties him. CLIVE/ANDY They have dinner with Lord Cleveland and D.I. Waddington. The Inspector wants to buy Clives copy of The Flower Seller. KELLY He is arrested.

ANDY

CLIVE/KELLY They talk on the phone when Kelly rings the number in the advert. They meet at the old steel factory. Clive shows Kelly the copy of the painting. Kelly makes Clive drive to the shop. Baker grabs Clive round neck and shoots Kelly in the leg. KELLY He sees the advert about The Flower Seller. Day Six (Tues.)
