INTRODUCTION

Method of Instruction: Conference/Demonstration Instructor to Student Ratio is: 1:4 Time of Instruction: 5 mins Media: Hands-on Instruction
Motivator

NOTE: Allow one to two minutes for the lesson introduction. Explain the Contemporary Operational Environment (COE) to include lessons learned. Ensure the students are aware of how it will affect them during their future assignments. The purpose of this lesson is to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to safely maneuver a hydraulic crane. This is a task that you as an operator, must perform effectively in a combat and peacetime environment.

Terminal Learning Objective

NOTE: Inform the students of the following Terminal Learning Objective requirements. At the completion of this lesson, you [the student] will: Action: Conditions:

Perform Hydraulic Crane Maneuvering Operations At a training site, given a guided discussion on maneuvering operations, a hydraulic crane, TM 5-3810-307-10, a student guide, an equipment records folder, a grease gun, petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL), rags, and all personal protective equipment. Perform hydraulic crane maneuvering operations by maneuvering the crane in four wheel mode, crab steering mode through a predesignated course staying inside the boundary cones and without error and with no damage to equipment or injury to personnel.

Standards:

Safety Requirements

Review local training area SOP. Kevlar/Hard hats must be worn at all times. Hearing protection must be worn while equipment is running. Eye protection, gloves, and proper foot protection must be worn when operating equipment. Use three points of contact when mounting or dismounting equipment. Remove all jewelry. Use caution around moving parts. Low

Risk Assessment Level

Environmental Considerations

NOTE: It is the responsibility of all Soldiers and DA civilians to protect the environment from damage. Avoid unnecessary stripping of vegetation and waterways. Control dust conditions and limit water erosion by dressing area at the end of each day. Explain the purpose of drip pans and their location under the equipment. Avoid unnecessary equipment usage and follow established procedures for cleanup of fluid leaks. Restore site and surrounding areas as close as possible to the original ecological condition. Performance evaluation, refer to the student evaluation plan in the student guide. During your training so far you have experienced maneuvering several different pieces of equipment. As you now know, not all equipment handles the same way. Some equipment has wheels and some have tracks making the maneuvering of this equipment quite different. This machine has tires and can be maneuvered using several different steering modes, so be safe, stay attentive, and remember when in the operators compartment to always wear your seatbelt.

Learning Step / Activity 1. Demonstrate Hydraulic Crane Maneuvering Method of Instruction: Instructor to Student Ratio: Time of Instruction: Media: Demonstration 1:6 25 mins Hands-on Instruction

NOTE: The demonstration will be conducted at the training site. Brief the students on equipment operation and personal safety equipment. Explain the maneuvering procedures while the assistant demonstrates. A. Maneuvering the Crane and Shutdown Procedures NOTE: Inform students to ensure crane boom is centered and locked for travel, outriggers are fully retracted and locked, and the outrigger pads are stowed. Warn the students that if the oil pressure does not register on the gauge immediately (10-15 seconds), they must turn the switch to the off position and inform the instructor. 1) Perform before PMCS 2) Start the crane 3) Maneuvering the Crane Forward Utilizing Front Wheel Steering. NOTE: Direct the students to familiarize themselves with during operations PMCS. a) Check the voltmeter for the proper operating range (24-28 volts). b) Check the air pressure gauge for proper operating range (95-120 psi). c) Depress the brake pedal (with right foot).

d) Release the parking brake. e) Shift the transmission shifter lever into first gear. f) Release the brake pedal.

g) Negotiate the predesignated course. h) Depress the brake pedal to complete the stop. i) j) k) l) Shift the transmission shifter lever into the neutral position. Engage the park brake. Turn off the ignition switch Dismount crane maintaining three points of contact facing the vehicle.

m) Perform a 360 degree walk around and place the chock blocks. n) Disengage battery disconnect switch. 2) Maneuver the crane utilizing four wheel and crab steering modes. a) Perform a 360 degree walk around inspection and remove chock block. b) Engage battery disconnect switch. c) Enter carrier cab maintaining three points of contact facing vehicle.

d) Start crane. e) Extend left hand through steering wheel. f) Place right hand on hydraulic pump disconnect handle.

g) With left hand turn off ignition. h) On the last revolution of the engine, push down the hydraulic disconnect handle to engage hydraulic pump. i) j) Start crane. Unlock rear axle utilizing rear axle steering lock switch.

k) Negotiate designated course utilizing four wheel and crab steering modes. l) Perform shutdown procedures.

NOTE: Never back a vehicle without the assistance of a ground guide. Emphasize to the students that air brakes have a light pedal operation. Inform them to use extreme care and caution stopping the carrier until they establish a good feel for the system. After a hard run (long distance), they should allow the engine to idle a few minutes before shutdown. This will allow the

temperature of the engine parts to stabilize uniformly and allow the turbocharger to cool down. NOTE: 2. Conduct a check on learning and summarize the learning activity. Learning Step / Activity 2. Perform Hydraulic Crane Maneuvering Method of Instruction: Instructor to Student Ratio: Time of Instruction: Media: Practical Exercise (Performance) 1:6 6 hrs 10 mins Hands-on Instruction

NOTE: The students may be tested on this task at any time during this practical exercise. If the student tests out on this task early THEY ARE STILL REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE BLOCK OF TRAINING. Conduct a Practical Exercise on Maneuvering Operations Refer to appendix C for practical exercise instructions. NOTE: 3. Conduct a check on learning and summarize the learning activity. Learning Step / Activity 3. Performance Evaluation Method of Instruction: Instructor to Student Ratio: Time of Instruction: Media: Test 1:6 1 hr Hands-on Instruction

Conduct a performance evaluation on maneuvering operations Refer to appendix C for evaluation instructions. NOTE: 4. Conduct a check on learning and summarize the learning activity. Learning Step / Activity 4. Performance Evaluation Review Method of Instruction: Instructor to Student Ratio: Time of Instruction: Media: Test Review 1:6 5 mins Small Group Instruction (SGI)

Conduct a performance evaluation review on maneuvering operations Refer to appendix C for evaluation instructions. NOTE: Conduct a check on learning and summarize the learning activity.
