The Free Standing Maths Qualification gives pupils an extra qualification which is recognised by UCAS, the university admissions service, and also complements the work which they cover within the normal GCSE Mathematics course. It provides an excellent introduction to the advanced mathematics required for Year 12 AS modules, but is also a worthwhile and enriching course in its own right. Pupils in set 1 for Mathematics will use one of their five weekly lessons to study for the FSMQ which offers the possibly of grades from A to E. Entry for the examination is dependent upon the pupils performance over the duration of the twoyear course.
