Specific areas of improvement: If I had one critical area of improvement it would be parental participation.

We have a dire need to get back to PTOs and PTAs where parents participate in their childrens lives. We need that personal contact between parents teachers and administrators to insure a quality education for each student. Although having the Academic stress Commission in Lorain can be looked on as a negative by many, I hope they embrace the situation. Having different opinions and approaches to solutions should be considered, especially if it helps and enhances test scores. Its my opinion that Lorain City Schools does a poor job of Customer Service. This will not be remedied over night but I am confident it will be improved in the near future. Good leadership, changes the culture of expectations, rapidly. Hiring Mr. Tom Tucker as Superintendent and educational Leader has been an excellent decision, in my opinion. Change will not come overnight. Please do not forget the many good teachers working so hard to improve our district and are diligently trying to raise test scores. I know it is their chosen profession, but still a very daunting job. I would like to thank the leadership team from the Lorain Education Association, also our Administration for their time spent in negotiations in the teachers contract over the summer. I believe each party put the needs of the children first and I want them to know it did not go unnoticed. A very big thank is warranted Accomplishments, goals, election: I cant take complete credit for defining goals. I had help from former teacher and board member Carl Ciccerrela before his passing in 2006.

Right size the district Administration to student ratio: Curriculum alignment to state standards:

Almost done Almost done

Become financially solvent: Happened July 1st 2013 Biennial Budget, and levy passage of Nov. 2012. Finish the building project: Customer Service: August 2016 Opening of LHS Ongoing project

Right size the district: Superintendent Tom Tucker has streamlined his administrative team to fit the future needs of the students. Financial resources redistributed for best practices. The district focus is now on education and not finances. Simply put more Indians and fewer chiefs Curriculum alignment: This is what was missing in my opinion for a long period of time. A child in the same grade can now move from the East, West, or South side and feel safe when they get to the other location the learning expectations will be close to the same where they left offEveryone is on the same page very important standards as to what and when things are taught Becoming financially solvent: With the passage of the November 2012 levy, and the Governors Biennial Budget on July 1 , 2013 the Lorain City School District is projected solvent for 3 years out. In this day and age this is about the best case scenario one could hope for in an Urban district. What most fail to realize is this district handled close to $21 million dollars in cuts in the last 3 years. This is the first year that for me the board of education has focused on education and not finances..

Building project: Projection of completion of the new Lorain High school is August 2016 for the opening. After much to do about the size and site it is started. When complete, for at least a period of time, Lorains children will have the best state of the art facility in Ohio. We deserve this and Im looking forward its opening.

Why vote for Bill Sturgill: I applied for the job. I worked to get here. This has been my passion for the last 10 years. I love this city, its community and its children. I have been fortunate to accomplish 90% of what I started. Now is the time for me to finish what was started years ago with my friend Mr. Carl Ciccerella. Thanks for the opportunity to serve the children of Lorain.Bill Sturgill
