Warm up Bingo (K-12) (part 1)

Display a bingo chart on a whiteboard/ projector/ poster. Fill each space with an activity. At the start of lesson, student picks up a bingo card & puts their name on it. Each day they come in they collect their personal bingo card & complete activities - you can specify if you want them to get a BINGO line or just give them a set time for activity completion If you use the card for a week give the students the goal to complete a blackout by the end of the week - blackout means everyone has to do every activity by the end of class/ week BUT they are in charge of the order in which they complete the activities Activity warm up ideas can relate directly to the unit - as skill review - or relate to components of fitness

Bug Tag (K-2)

- Select 4 Taggers to be IT! - Everyone else spreads out in personal space - Once a student is tagged they lay on their back and wave their hands and feet in the air like a bug stuck on their back - Other students can then save the bugs by giving them a high 5 - Play each round for 45 seconds to 1 min using different locomotors each time -Submitted by: @WestwoodPE

Human Rock Paper Scissors

as students come into the gym they pair off and face their partners across the centre line of the gym (even teams are NOT needed) each team confers about what they will "throw" as a team rock: squat down into a "rock shape" paper: arms up and wide, legs spread wide scissors: both arms and legs crossed go through the motions (R,P,S) once and then on the fourth time the whole team "throws" their choice If Team A wins the round, they have to chase Team B and try and tag as many members as possible before Team B crosses the safety line. All tagged Team B members become members of team A Each team decides what to "throw" next and then lines up across the centre line for round #2! Continue until students are too tired to chase each other anymore - very rare that one team is completely tagged!

The students have to crab walk through general space. They are allowed to pick up one piece of crab food at a time, place it on their stomachs, and crab walk the food back to their hoop. The team with the most pieces of food wins. Submitted by Sarah Gietschier-Hartman @GHSaysRockChalk

Team EIT(Everyone's It Tag)

Teams of 3-4, each team gets one ball. Players try to tag players from other teams. If you get tagged, you must do an exercise in place (squats, plank, ski jumps, etc.) until your teammate with the ball passes it to you. If you are the one with the ball and get tagged, you must do the exercise until you find a teammate to pass to. Once you pass or receive the ball, you are free to tag other players. submitted by Ken Smith @PE_ksmith

Bombs and Torpedoes

Equipment: bean bags, Gator balls, net to divide the gym

Divide the class into two groups. The object of the game is to hit the opposing team with balls (bombs) or bean bags (torpedoes) by throwing the balls over the net and sliding the bean bags under the net. If a player is hit by a bomb or torpedo they run to the wall behind them, touch the wall, and perform 5 jumping jacks before re-entering the game. If a ball is caught, the person who threw the ball performs 5 jumping jacks. Some administrators do not like the name of this game, so you may need to come up with another one!

Rip Deck Warm-Up

@Teach4PE
Materials: iPad, projector, & RipDeck App Object: Students create and teach their designed warm-up to the rest of the class. Student led activity in less than 5 mins. Students come up with 4-5 exercises to be used in a proper warm-up. We plug those exercises into the RipDeck Workout app Rip Deck for the entire class to perform. The app uses a deck of cards to randomly select the exercises that come up. However, the exercises and reps can be customized.

Dominoes Fitness
Equipment: Dominoes cards, activity choice cards, 1-2 sets of dominoes ( Download cards for free @ www.everactive.org/dominoes-fitness?id=793) Organization: Post the dominoes cards around the playing area and post one activity choice card under each domino card. Place one or two sets of dominoes face down in the middle of the playing area. On the signal, participants travel on their own or with a partner to the middle and flip over one domino. After locating that domino on the wall, the participant places it back in the middle face down, moves over to the matching domino on the wall and performs one of the activities on the card. Each card has a low impact and a high-impact activity for the participant choose. The activity continues for a designated amount of time and participants attempt to flip over as many dominoes as they can in the allotted time. Try playing music to motivate your students!

In Sync Jumping Jacks

@MrHorne101
Objective: To get the entire class to do jumping jacks in sync without counting out loud. This activity is a great warm-up and team builder for your class. Grades: K-12 Equipment: None Activity: Have students spread out in a semi-circle or a few rows all facing the middle. Pick 1 or 2 students to come to the front to lead the activity. Pick however many jumping jacks you want to do, lets say 8. Tell the class that a full jumping jack starts with arms and feet together, then spread apart, then back together (that is one). The entire class must finish in sync (arms and feet together) on the 8

th

jumping jack or else they must

start over. I have never seen a class get it on the first try. If you want to make it more difficult, the teacher counts out loud random numbers to distract the students. Give them at least 3 attempts (possibly increase the number on each attempt). Rules: No one is allowed to talk or count out loud. The leader(s) may verbally give a command (i.e. Ready, set, begin) to start the activity, but then they cannot talk. Variation: Could do different exercises.

Climb the bleachers as a team

-Have the bleachers closed to have a straight face . -The students choose 1 person to go up to the top of the bleachers. -Every student must make it up to the top of the bleachers with touching the face of them. *This works with 6 to 8 or 9 bleachers *We have done this with our grade 7 students. @coachstewartm

Switch Tag
Have students sit in pairs spread out on the floor in front of you. Have a volunteer pair stand up to start the chase. One student will chase and the other will be chased. They run and weave through the pairs until the chased student sits down beside a pair creating a trio. The trio cannot remain a trio so the student on the other side of the trio must get up and avoid the student who has been giving chase. If a chased student is tagged they become the tagger. Spread the pairs out once students get the idea.

It Tag (Everybodys It #2)

Purpose of the Activity: help students understand the relationship between cooperation and competition spatial awareness (movement through general space) introduction to strategy and tactics in game play youll need an open, obstacle free space defined by lines or markings of some sort - thats it! Ask students to stand on the boundary lines so everyone is aware of the space. This is it tag, everybody is it. Stay in bounds and dont get tagged. If you get tagged, or go out of bounds, you sit. - Any questions? 3,2,1 - go! What will happen is that some are tagged before they even know the game has started, others will last longer. Let it happen! Use the opportunity after the game to have a discussion about who had fun, how it feels to be out before you even have a chance to learn and play etc. Ask students to stand on the boundary lines so everyone is aware of the space. Find a partner and hold hands (hands on shoulders, etc.) (you can have one group of three or the teacher can join in). This is it tag, everybody is it. Stay in bounds and dont get tagged. If you get tagged, or go out of bounds, you sit. If your partner touches you on the shoulder, you are back up. Any questions? 3,2,1 - go! After one or two rounds debrief again - How did this round go? Challenges? Opportunities? what are the SKILLS needed to be successful? Set up: Phase #1: Individual

Phase #2: Partners

Stay in bounds and dont get tagged. If you get tagged, or go out of bounds, you sit. If your team-mate touches you on the shoulder, you are back up. Any questions? 3,2,1 - go! let them play a round (sometimes youll have to end it, sometimes a group will win) give each group 1-2 minutes to come up with a strategy and tactics - then play again as they apply and try strategy= a plan or overarching idea usually to achieve a long term goal tactics= how you will implement your strategy in the short term debrief after a few trys and allow each team time to reformat strategy and tactics based on what they have learned discuss as a large group the relationship between skill, strategy and tactics what was successful in each area? Groups can share their trials and errors Ask: what is the purpose of the game? (to be the last team standing - or - tag all and not get tagged) what are the most important concepts (the skills, strategy and tactics youve just discussed) that help you reach the purpose of the game? (for example, the game purposefully does NOT use pinnies etc. to identify teams to COMMUNICATION is critical to success. Ask students to stand on the boundary lines so everyone is aware of the space. Take your quad, find another and make a octet and hold hands (hands on shoulders, etc.) (you can have one larger or smaller group or the teacher can join in). This is it tag, everybody is it. Death Canal
Divide the class into two groups, 1 team runs, the other one throw soft balls Each member of the team only runs once, he has to go to the end of the gymnasium and come back, if he does then his team will have 2 points. He has to avoid being touched by the ball. If he is touched then the other team has 2 points. When all the team has run then the other team does (change the rol). Wins the team who sums more points. Watch out with throws on the head Its not allowed overstep the line when people are throwing their balls. If there is one ball close to the canal you can take it and come back to the initial position and throw it again.

Bean Bag Scramble

Equipment: 30 bean bags, 5 hula hoops Put a hoop in each corner of the playing area. Put the fifth hoop and all 30 bean bags in the middle of the playing area. Divide the class into four teams and assign a corner hoop to each team. In a relay fashion, the students race to get as many bean bags as possible. Example: The first person runs to the middle hoop, grabs a bean bag, runs back to his/her home hoop, places the bean bag in the hoop, and high fives the second person in line. When all of the bean bags in the middle are gone, the teams may steal bean bags from the other corner hoops. While stealing bean bags, each team must stay in the same order and continue working in a relay fashion. Players are not allowed to defend their hoops. Allow the students to steal bean bags for 1-2 minutes. Stop the game and see which team has the most bean bags! Submitted by Sarah Gietschier-Hartman @GHSaysRockChalk
